The building is swaying...

So, since no-one bothered to call me and advise me that the office would not be open today, I got in my car and drove to work. I'm the only one here. I've gotten a lot accomplished. I feel like I'm on a boat! Our IT guy just stopped by - he tells me that the "O" just blew off the Modis Building. Sure enough, I look out the window and there is ( Read more... )

Too bad you didn't get the message that your company was being responsible and not opening on Friday... I got a message that "because the weather conditions were forecasted to improve, the building would open as usual at 10AM"...After a horrible drive in and a free sandwich, it blew up in Pru's face when the river came over its banks, the streets surrounding the parking garage began to flood and two tordados were spotted downtown. Then they were like, "For your saftey, we are closing the building by 3PM"

Yeah... thanks, now I get to go back out in the elements and try to make it home through down trees, power lines, flooding and tropical force winds. Pretty lame for a LIFE Insurance co, no?

To me, the lack of notification not to come in shows a similar lack of concern - especially because on Tuesday I asked one of the partners what sort of Emergency Operations Plan we had and his answer was that he had the list of everyone's phone numbers and would contact us if needed. On Wednesday, he sent an e-mail to let us know the office would be closing early Wednesday and would be closed Thursday, but back to work Friday. Which is all well and good however, a) Not all of the staff has access to company e-mail from home, b) If anyone lost power, they wouldn't have access to e-mail and c) He decided he would work from home Wednesday (which to me is the PINNACLE of disrespect for one's staff - grrrr!)

I lost count of how many times we watched the following DVD's: The Laurie Berkner Band (During which Delia complained "Mommy, why aren't you marching" so I was forced to march like a dinosaur around my living room approximately 10,000 times), They Might Be Giants Here Come the ABC's and Here Come the 123's, The Wiggles - Santa's Rockin' (Remind me to HURT my sister for that one.) and Dora The Explorer - A Present for Santa. We also had several tea parties and built many Lego castles.
