My father died this morning. he had been diagnosed with cancer just before I left for new york. he was just going into hospice care when I got back this last weekend. I was making plans to go visit him again at his group home. He was doing very well. his treache tube was out. he was going home. Its very strange how this all happened so quick

I had the same feelings when my father passed away too. I think most people must have them, because it's really hard for them not to feel that they didn't do enough, didn't talk to them enough, didn't learn from them enough, didn't make them proud enough.
But your father helped make you, and I think you've grown into a good, kind person and a good friend to have... and I think that's more than enough.
We're all imperfect people trying to make our way through the world, and we all have to deal with our own demons. Your father had his, no doubt. The good thing is, we don't have to let our father's demons become our own. That's not to say we won't have to face our own demons, however.
Learn from your father, appreciate the times you've shared, the gifts he has given you, and the lessons he has taught you. He has lived his life. Take time to reflect on and honor that life, and, after suitable reflection, go forward and live your own.
