There's ostentatious... and then there's Warren Mears' spread. To be fair, Graceland was ostentatious. The White House, at one time, might be considered ostentatious. But no longer. Mears' castle a blinding strobe light of ostentatiousness among a nation of tiny tea lights ( ... )

Mears looked to be the sort that imagined that clothes made the man. He had a fairly sturdy build that seemed more like it might be less imposing if it weren't in fancy duds, but he was a big boy nonetheless. And I do mean "boy" -- even the most cosmopolitan tastes in Italian leather couldn't hide the fact that he wasn't much more than a youngster in a man's clothes. All the same, I gave him what I expected was a sagely smile and shook his hand ( ... )
