30 Day DaiMao Drabble Challenge: Day 7

*Loud sluping*

“Can you please stop doing that?!” Mao gritted through clenched teeth, notwithstanding his friend’s obnoxious table manners any longer.

Koni’s head snapped up from where he was concentrating on consuming every last drop of his iced caramel latte through a straw. “Sorry…” he replied sheepishly, “So what were you saying about that new neighbor of yours? I heard the words ‘sexy’, ‘dad’, and ‘gay’, but I wasn’t really paying attention.”

Mao sighed, exasperated by his friend’s antics. He had long accepted the fact that Koni probably had mush for brains, so he patiently recounted the story for him again without complaining.

“…and he’s sexy as fuck but the only problem is that he’s a single dad he’s so much older than me.”

“How much older?”

“Nine fucking years. Besides, he just got a divorce and came to New York from Tokyo like a month ago, so he’s probably still acclimating to life here in the States…he might not even be interested in seeing anyone right now,” Mao huffed, putting his head in his palms.

Koni tilted his chair back and propped his feet up on the café table. Thank goodness they were outdoors and New Yorkers were too busy to spare them a glance, or else it would have been more embarrassing than it already was.

“You wanna know what I think?” Koni said with a smug look on his face.

Mao raised an unamused eyebrow. “What?” he replied flatly.

“I think…”

“Yeah…?”

“That you…” Koni dragged on.

Mao nodded his head vigorously to encourage him to continue.

“That you should…”

“Will you just say it already?! Goddamn!”

“Okay, okay!” Koni quickly surrendered, planting his feet back on the ground and leaning in close. “Ask him out. He’s new here so you can just offer to show him around town. It’ll be like a date but not really, and you guys can get to know each other better without getting all awkward if things don’t work out,” he shrugged. He then pulled his chair back again and put his feet up casually, taking his empty cup and aggressively slurping up the last bit of liquid remains.

Ask him out.

Mao pondered the idea for a moment, paying no attention to his friend’s vulgar behavior. “You think I should?” he asked off-handedly.

“Oh yeah. Definitely,” Koni remarked as he tossed his cup into the garbage can. “Score!” he cheered, pumping his fist when it landed in the wastebasket.

If Mao had been in his right mind, he would have scolded his friend for being childish, but he was so immersed in the possibility of asking his hot new neighbor to go out with him that he pretty much tuned everything else out.

All of a sudden, Mao broke past his stupor and jumped to his feet, proclaiming, “I’ll do it!”

“Whoah there buddy, let’s not get too carried away now…” Mao just grabbed Koni up by the arm and pulled him out of the café. “W-wait, where are we going?” he asked, confused.

“I’m going to ask Daichan out and you are going to help me,” Mao stated matter-of-factly.

Koni’s eyes widened almost comically. “Heh?! And just how do you expect me to help you?”

Without any explanation, Mao simply dragged his friend to his house so they could devise a plan. He wasn’t entirely sure why, but he had a feeling that something good could actually come out of this.

A/N: Idk if I can even call this a drabble, but here it is. I hope you guys liked it. You can only imagine the crazy schemes that Mao and his insane friend would come up with at this point lol (If anyone’s wondering about who Daichan’s child would be, I kind of imagine it to be Babaryo haha). Not sure if I’ll ever expand on this, but I guess if enough people show interest, I will consider it.
