So it seems that I've arrived in Violet City. Quaint, really, but still too small. And no chess boards to be found. Not that I really expected very much, but it was worth a try ( Read more... )

I think you're looking too far into it.

Would it be better if I shrugged it off like most do after a few days?

Who says anyone shrugged it off?

No, no. You're right. But look at it from a different standpoint. New people arrive on a weekly basis, it seems.

What happens then? Most are confused, angry... jilted in some way. But they adjust so quickly. It's human nature, after all! Adapt to their surroundings. So quickly, it seems that sense of urgency just... vanishes. Just seeing the daily postings evidences it pretty well.

That's not the case for everyone, of course. But it does seem to cover quite a few.

I don't know about other people, but this is a dream come true for me! To be inside a videogame. I don't think I want to go home. Not yet... this is too much fun.

I'd say I hadn't considered that answer, but after we last spoke, I was more than aware of that too. Of course, I'd say you're something of a special case, compared to many.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. No, quite the opposite actually. It's refreshing!

Not everybody has heard of the game. It's a little sad.

...Everybody else wants to go home?

Sad? I found it interesting! To think, we're in a place that brings many people from many dimensions... some of which breach the fourth wall! This entire place does that - it's fascinating. And I'm sure not knowing of the games must provide something more a challenge. Such a different learning curve, after all.

No, but most aren't as excited as you do see this world as a reality.

If I beat all the gym leaders, I'll find out what's going on. I can beat the game!

If I remember right, there's a bit more to the game than that.

People who get that easily bogged down by their fears would still be stuck in New Bark.

Some, maybe. But would they all? Fear is a driving force - fight or flight is a natural reaction, after all. If they're left to believe that staying stationary won't do anything, they can be motivated.

Of course, there are those who probably would react in such a way! But curiosity certainly does have a way of affecting people, even when they're living in sheer terror.

Sometimes, but I don't really find this world too scary. People disappear, but they don't die, it's just generally believed they go back home.

I suppose this world does come off as relatively tame, hm? Even with disappearances and threats... No, I think this is much tamer, as well.

I guess that makes two of us. Or perhaps many, many more, based on the everyday conversations I've picked up on.

You are right. The past is always part of you, even in a new place. However, being in this new place allows people to start over. Maybe that fact is what keeps people from being afraid of the unknown while they are here.

Perhaps, perhaps! Quite an interesting theory, I have to agree.

Though that fresh start can easily be ripped apart when aspects of the past arrive here; a person they wish to avoid for one reason or another could tear down a carefully built wall.

I suppose. Although in a place such as this, avoiding that aspect of the past would not be too difficult.

Of course... presuming their willpower allows it.
