Well, I got my wisdom teeth pulled this morning at about 8:30 a.m. Now I'm feelin kinda funky and the sockets where they removed the teeth are starting to hurt. And nope, I won't take pain medication. I will not puke and suffer side effects just so my empty sockets wont feel like they're on fire. Just like state fair parade. I drank no water the ( Read more... )

With all the advice I've gotten from people about wisdom teeth, I gained more wisdom than I lost ;-). Anyway, remember - always keep your head up! (That's not just some postmodern ultra-optimistic mantra - You're more apt to swell if you sleep and lounge around flat. Of course, you probably know more about that sort of stuff than me).

I was (carefully) playing my horn after a week (well, I had to since I was playing an Easter gig during Spring Break!) and eating hard food around then. The swelling/bruising was basically gone after two weeks and the sockets had healed completely in maybe two-and-a-half. The holes are still there, but they've about half closed in the last three months.

Make sure to be careful if you play soon (hopefully you won't have to). Playing trumpet is alright because my cheeks cover the sockets; larger mouthpieces and more spread embouchures run the risk of drying the sockets. Try it with low buzzing on the mouthpiece and see how it goes. Good luck!

Ooog man. I didn't start playing until about two and a half weeks after my surgery, on account that I had two days to prepare for All State. Good job not taking the pain medication! You can probably sell it to some funny kids at La Cueva later on this year.

And don't worry...I actually ate soft ravioli the same day of my surgery. Hah...I bet you weren't nearly as bad as seeing Beerhausen all drugged up after his surgery. Fucking hilarious :D

I feel that I might as well save the medication for a day when I really need it. I'm not really in severe pain right now, just annoying and occasional bad pain.

But hey, whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.
