I read that actually. And now I've read it for the fourth (fifth, sixth, nth) time. Disney films aren't supposed to be this morally ambiguious! Clu is a Nazi allegory! Why the fuck is he so damn sympathetic?!

That's the banality of evil, I suppose... nobody's ever the villain in their own story.
I think Clu is quite sympathetic, in his own way -- Flynn seemed to think so, too, at least in the end -- partly because he really was just trying to do what Flynn asked of him, even after all those years. If only he'd known that the perfect system couldn't literally come to life, if only someone had been there to teach him... but nobody was, and tragedy ensued, even for himself.
That is sympathetic, and I think the writers were right to play it that way, Disney notwithstanding. Sometimes it's nice to feel sorry for the bad guy. ♥

Yeah. : ) Everyone needs a little fluff in their lives, even fictional characters. Screws with your morals, though, if it's done right.
...Actually that reminds me of a webcomic called Erfworld. It really plays with the morally ambiguous nature of, well, being one of the bad guys and knowing it. Nobody wins in a war.

Yeah, but I'm all right with that. Challenge is good for morals, keeps 'em in shape! :)

I read Book One of that back when it was on Order of the Stick's site. It was a little too unfocused/rambling for my taste, but fun! The little dirt-mage reminds me of Jarvis, come to think of it.

This is so tragic and beautiful. I feel so much for Clu here- and I love how compellingly you portray his decisions. He believes so much in everything that he's done, even the things that to us humans seem awful.
This feels so canon to me, how bittersweet their relationship is. Especially that second-to-last piece... Clu's love for his creation is so great there.

That's what I like best about Clu, I think -- he has such passion, such a driving need to make things right. It's very Kevin, actually... he's found a real-world frontier to reshape the Program condition! <3

This is just...sweet. It's nice to see a more 'human' side of Clu, and get some insight into his motivations (however twisted they may be, they make a kind of sense, and I feel for him.)
To be real, alive and free at last -- that, Clu thought, was perfectly worth dying for.

Yeah. If I came to understand that my entire world -- the world I'd spent a few hundred years trying to perfect -- was nothing more than a box in my neglectful creator's dusty basement, I think I'd want out, too.
Kinda can't blame Clu for the whole :D :D :) :) :) :( :( :( D: D:< transition on that one.

Perfection built within a cage was no perfection at all... To be real, alive and free at last -- that, Clu thought, was perfectly worth dying for.
There's so much to love here, but these bits are probably my favorites. Very inspiring <3

You made me take Clu's [emotional] side, dammit. How'd you do that without going over LJ's character limit?
*whistles* This is great. I love the lines about Rinzler's purring, and just... just... this whole thing. What scowilily said, too.

Practice. :3 I wrote a much longer fic with a lot of Clu (and Flynn!) called Reintegration Moon -- check it out if you're interested!
