Clu's plans go horribly right

Clu's plan succeeds, and he manages to bring his army into the real world, where he gets a nasty shock. None of the fighting methods his soldiers know is especially useful in the user world. Throwing a disk does nothing except maybe annoy the person it bounces off of, he can't manipulate the environment in any way, and guns? What's a gun?

So they get rolled by the army. Clu gets captured, they find out about the grid, and hey, there's nothing the army likes better than free, programmable soldiers. A few years down the line, what do you get? An entire underclass of programs to serve your every whim, probably with some kind of three-laws-of-robotics coding slipped in. Though that doesn't mean they can't try to get around it... And trust me, that whole "don't kill your masters" thing? Clu really, really wants to get around it.

Creeptastic. Gods. Amazingly written. I'm one of the (seemingly few) people who tends to feel less sympathetic and more antagonistic towards Clu, but still...

Figured they'd find the laser, although that they disconnected it from the Grid is both laugh-worthy and mildly saddening--Sam, Quorra, and Flynn are really stuck now. Eh. They could get brought back, but less likely

My thoughts on it were that Clu (and probably Rinzler to some extent, due to how much Clu's messed around in his head) are more akin to AIs than the rest of the programs, and therefore way more difficult to bend to your needs. If they'd started with a lower level program, like some random footsoldier, they'd probably have had more luck. (But Clu is a more attractive target) Their other problem is that they're approaching things from the wrong angle- If you see a guy who seems to be walking and talking just fine, there's no logical leap to "Ah, I see he is the personification of microsoft excel!". I mean, imagine loading up the digital version of a person and you look at the code and realize "...Wait, what? Is this coding for minesweeper?" Where do you even begin?

(In other words, the logic behind AI and program sentience in Tron is squishy as hell and makes no logical sense on examination, so I prefer to handwave it and say it just works because it does.)

Yep, still awesome. <3 I especially loved the detail in the copying/rectifying section -- you have a real knack for making the computer-stuff seem relatable and real! The short section of Clu/Clu dialogue was hilarious and wonderful, also.

Poor Clu; say what you will about him, but I doubt his version of rectification was ever like that. I'm rooting for him (as usual!), and I hope you are too, but I suspect there'll be a lot more angst before the end...

I'll say this- in the bit I'm writing just now, Clu's reached his low point. And, you know, there's nowhere to go but up from there...

(This is an unrelated sidenote, but the more I write him, the more Clu reminds me of Liquid Snake from Metal Gear. I mean, there's the arrogance and the snark and the trying to build a country/stage an invasion and more "fuck you, dad!" than the world can hold. Does this make Sam Solid Snake? Is Flynn Big Boss? Is Rinzler Frank Jaeger- haha oh my god he is, he is, he's totally Grey Fox right down to the brainwashing and the crazy and the secret loyalties. This is ridiculous.)

ha, even the non-stop rattling of the fourth-wall (with The-Dude!Flynn and the billion references to the first movie and more subtle stuff like this) kinda fits. You should request a crossover. <3

Oh my User, you're right, he is just like Liquid Snake!
And, as much as I hate to be anally retentive about this, Liquid is from Metal Gear Solid, not Metal Gear. They're two different games.
