Prompt: story time, a fic for Aeon, please don't kill me
"Well, you see..."
Spitfire pursed his lips, leaning against the railing of the tree house's roof, to keep people from falling off of it supposedly, or more likely built to give people something to lean on up here close to the sky. He glanced up through the branches of the tree and tugged at his bottom lip thoughtfully.
"I guess it all started about five years ago. Sano-kun had just joined our team and was rapidly learning the skills that took most others months to master. I suppose it was inevitable that jealousies would arise."
Kazu, standing beside him, watched his face, since Spitfire wasn't paying particular attention to him at the moment. "So he's really that good?"
The older man chuckled, glancing down at the boy and then away. "Oh, he's very good. One of the best."
"So what happened?"
"Well, it was a bit of a scheduling error, you see."
"A scheduling error?"
Spitfire could almost hear the baffled expression the boy wore. "Ah, yes. It was quite unfortunate. I had called meetings with them both for the same evening, and didn't realize until I was already running late. Apparently it was dark when Sano-kun arrived, and Kokuen had decided to shower since I hadn't gotten there yet. So, thinking that it was me in the shower..."
He barely had time to get his arms up to block the foot from crashing through his skull. The kick knocked him through the railing, and he fell, laughing as he twisted through the air, as Kazu gawked at the man who was very suddenly beside them, clearly furious and slightly pinked in the cheeks.
"And that," Aeon Clock said glaring after the former Flame King and pushing his glasses firmly into place, "is why I hate them both."
