Yes, you are allowed to grieve over the life you are leaving. Then, you get to turn your face to the new life.

Try to make sure you drink enough water and don't forget to eat a bit, even a handful of nuts, cut up fruit or tea sandwiches that you can snag a section of on the way by. Small nibbles that don't challenge a stressed stomach but will help stave off low blood sugar.

My appetite did come back by the end of the day - I was worried I'd gone back to the way I was that horrible week I spent in hospital where I could barely take a sip of water big enough to take a pill.

I had to go out in the afternoon to stock up on my favourite beverage, which I am having to wean myself off because it's not available in the UK, and had the mad urge to buy something utterly decadent... which is still sitting in the fridge. I'll probably eat them over the weekend (2 chocolate eclairs) but they will definitely be regarded as treats. Hopefully, a celebration of a decent offer on the house!

And low blood sugar makes it worse. As I found out after Dad died.

Best of luck, mate. I hope your new life is everything you want it to be. Keep intouch.

I do intend to get back in here more often once I reach home shores - are you enjoying your trip?
