North Korea

Okay, so i don't think I've seen anyone on my friends list discussing this, but what the hell is goinng on in North Korea? I mean, I know the basic story, but I'm having a difficult time understanding the stances of the two sides. Why does Korea want bilateral talks only? Why is the U.S. so opposed to this? Why does Korea feel that we are such ( Read more... )

The NK situation is hilarious. George Bush invaded Iraq because he claimed they had WMDs. Meanwhile, yesterday's announcement that NK actually has nukes really comes as no surprise; their WMD program has been running for the last few years, completely unimpeded. The NK leader is a wack-job of the highest magnitude, and has been telling the world that the USA is going to attack him any day now - he's been doing this since 9/12, basically. It's totally, utterly fucked up.

But is this guy something we should legitimately worry about? Does he have a point when he says that Bush is out to get him? I mean, if someone had called me part of the axis of evil they were trying to destroy, I'd be paranoid too.

Kim-Jong-Il is obviously insane, but I'm just wondering if it's a harmless insane or an "oh shit" insane.

You tell me. The guy is batshit insane and actually has nuclear weapons. Not imaginary ones, like Saddam. Believe me, I'm verrrrrry curious to see how the Bush/Rove administration handles this. The way I see it, if there's any one man who needs to be removed from power RIGHT FUCKING NOW, it's Bush Kim-Jong-II. Is he a threat? Depends. He's been threatening to blow up the world every day for 2 years now. He also said that in the event of a nuclear attack that he's designated space in his bunkers for all of his portraits and statues, which all good citizens must turn in as they themselves are left out to die.

BTW - The "Bush" in "Bush Kim-Jong-II" was intended to be struck through.

The most important thing to remember is that Kim-Jong-Il is nuttier than a fruitcake.

As I understand it, the Clinton Administration had worked out a deal with North Korea where they would slowly be dismantling their program. Unfortunately, no one watched North Korea's progress as closely as they should have done; they were lying about dismantling...

Here's a good article on the Axis of Evil speech and the North Korea situation.

Thanks for this link, that's a pretty good assessment of the situation from what I can tell. I'd love for this guy to update his thinking now that all of this recent activity has occurred.

I have a feeling it'll be in a new issue. If I spot one, I'll forward it to you.

Clinton's administration gave them the reactor material in exchange that their nutty leader wouldn't use it for weapons. NK lied obviously.

The nutball wants bilateral talks because 1.)It makes him look like a real world leader and 2.)he knows that everyone else will also tell him to get rid of the weapons. If he only talks with "us" about it then he can say "That bad United States is out to get me...yadda yadda."

Personally, I think we should pressure their biggest allie, China, to help out since we import so much crap from them.
