"Rolex?" "No, it's an Omega"

^CRINGE. Cut for spoilers.

Well, I'm being generous there. What a bore. What an insanely overlong, overrated bore.

It's not just that Bond himself is the most irritating, pseudo-cool, every middle-aged man's dream character ever created. And it isn't just that I happen to dislike James Bond films. And spy films. And action films. And films where the "bad girl" can easily be tamed by some stupid chat up line and thus become a vapid dependent for the rest of the film. No, all that aside, it was probably the amount of hype this film had. Which made me think that it might vaugely be better than previous Bond films. However, I was wrong. I went in slightly cynical, I'll admit, but I was justified.

Firstly, it was the fact that it was the same as every other spy/action film ever; the chases, the meeting, the horribly exotic location, the slightly disfigured baddie with the slightly slutty girl, the meeting of the girl who is hard on the outside but secretly is vulnerable, the girl who is a double agent, the being told of by the superiors. I just think it's a bad sign that I left to go to the loo and loitered for 10 minutes, and still knew exactly what was happening when I got back.

And doing Media Studies last year didn't help. When you can pick apart exactly what the director is doing (omg longshot coz he's jumping of teh crane!! angtsy distance look! BIG EXPLOSION!!) and why they're doing it (yes, because a cinema audience is surprisingly easy to manipulate) it takes any fun out of it. That and the 17 product placements I counted. Yes, I counted.

Anyway. Those are my thoughts. I'm aware I sound like a snotty bitch, but who cares? I couldn't voice this around my friends who loved it, and I felt bad correcting in this manner. And plus they already think I'm moody enough without this.

I wish I'd stayed in; I might have got some work done.
I hate when this frustration sets in. I'm almost looking forward to Oxford. It'll be sort of like a holiday, and I'm sure I'll have more than enough of an opportunity to be solitary if I like.
If I don't I can try my hand at making a first impression. Eeep.

Busy day tomorrow, I'm off to bed.
