I'm really sick of the gay community. I mean, there are some cool gays... but... most of them are club-going, beer drinkin, bar hopping, getting stoned all the time, TOO GAYYYYY PRIDEish. I just want to meet some NORMAL gays/lesbians. Sure, I like to drink every now and then... but I want to meet the type of people who are MORE than that. People ( Read more... )

Having shirts off at pride isn't necessarily a crazy thing but it definatly is feminist. It is simply that the idea that nipples are offensive is a patriarchal construction centralized around the overt objectifcation and sexualization of women. It wouldn't even seem odd for women to be topless if women's breasts weren't objectified and sexualized-- it would encounter the same attention as a topless man. Being topless at pride isn't a queer thing or a pride thing, its the only time of year women can fight the overt sexualization of the patriarchy by taking their shirts off without getting arrested. Think if men got arrested for taking their shirts off-- that's a crazy concept isn't it?

Sorry to come of mildly like i'm flaming you-- I'm not. I just think that being topless is about more than queerness or pride. Its fighting for your right to be equal. In my opinion I think seeing anyone topless is offensive-- but the rule is separate and unequal and being topless is the best way to argue it.

I just believe that people should all be more conservative. I don't think it's proper for women to be walking around with their boobs hanging out... nor do I think it's right for a man's penis to be hanging out. I believe that sexual things should be something kept between two consenting individuals. I DO think that people need to know about it, however, i think it's broadcasted way too much(especially at pride). I think it's important to perhaps pass out condoms or have them avaliable because during this even most people are drunk or high (for most) and most will engage in some sexual act with strangers and it's important for no one to contract any diseases. I just think pride although sends a GREAT message of "We're OUT and PROUD and NOT backing down until we get equal rights"... however, I think that message is lost around the S & M booths, the boobs flopping in the wind as will as the dicks, and drugs and alcohol being passed around. I think people have lost sight of the true message and it's been a weekend to party and "celebrate ( ... )

that's just the point. breasts are only "sexual" objects because the white western patriarchy defines them that way.

at any rate- i do agree people need to be more conservative. i don't think men should be topless either.
