Knitting A Skirt Using Scrap Yarn

Mar 21, 2014 14:15

For something completely different, I just posted a knitting pattern for a skirt that I made on Tumblr. Thought I'd share, because a) it's a very pretty skirt indeed and I'm very proud of my freestyle knitting :p and b) maybe one of you will have use for it, too.

The Tumblr post is here, featuring bigger pictures.

So, I was thinking about Finnick's talent. I just saw Catching Fire again and that poem is so bad, it's exactly the sort of thing Finnick would write just to fuck with people. I am deeply puzzled by all the people that think that a) Finnick would ever recite Annie in public, b) that piece of crap is actually romantic, and c) Finnick would be focused on anything but trying to work the crowds to the best advantage for the rebellion and sponsors. If they were going to take the romantic angle, couldn't they have written a better poem for the movie? I also have to say I think the approach they took with Joanna's interview for the movies was wrong too. In the book, she tries to work an angle, in the movie she just comes off unhinged. Both of them come off as less clever than they did in the books ( ... )

Ugh, yeah, that poem is terrible and I have gotten many a hateful anon message on Tumblr whenever I opened my mouth and argued the exact same thing. It's because the actor said it was meant as a sincere moment. But I personally think the actor should have done a better job, if that's what we're supposed to think.

Hey, Mags ain't an old lady sitting at home having nothing to do! :D She works twelve-hour-days running the Games school and maniuplating her district. Home schooling Finnick is his parents' business. Probably his brothers would be assigned the task, as if they don't have anything better to do. :p But he's fourteen already and I doubt they have higher education in the districts, so there's not a lot of school left.

Hah. I love Finnick's punk rock lyrics. :D

All this stuff came from reading about Finnick's early days in D12, where I just felt so horrible for him having lost everything he loved to do, and also seeing the state of Haymitch's life. I just kept thinking that here poor guys desperately needed to find things to make their lives less empty. Besides developing a sex life, that is. That can certainly kill some time, if done right ( ... )

You just bet they killed a lot of time with their sex life. :) Despite of how they took it one step at a time, I'm rather sure that they spent the whole week after that trip to the lake randomly starting to trade kisses like teenagers. They'd have this great discovery of, "OMG I can do that now."

They definitely keep eating together and cooking together. They'd try out a lot, because they're both smart and they have to cook anyway. But Finnick does more cooking than Haymitch. The vegetable garden idea is pretty awesome, but probably something that would happen some time in the future. They'd definitely need supplies to feed all the children, if they wanted to start doing it properly. It would take a while, ordering seeds from the Capitol. Sneaking stuff in from outside the fence.
