I'm also just so pleased that the chapter works so well for you because, well, it's a big deal, it's a big chapter, so it's the kind of thing that can damage the story if it doesn't work.

I really liked how they were both pretty inarticulate, because when characters suddenly start spouting purple prose it always makes me wince a little, even in otherwise well written fanfics.Ugh, yeah. Communication is hard, and I like to reflect that in fic. It's one of the reasons I like writing boy characters, I think. It's such a typical boy problem. And I'm with you on the poetry thing. I don't like to think that Finnick would like doing anything with Annie that he does for the Capitol, period. I do think that Finnick is better at articulating his feelings when he's with Annie vs. Haymitch, because I think Finnick is a person who adjusts very strongly to his partner. I think of Annie as a very mature person with a healthy sexuality who is good on communicating directly, and Finnick would pick that up, while Haymitch's inability to articulate ( ... )
