This is for the prompt Gaeta/Baltar, law of attraction, by
tin-o-biscuits. 370 words, Baltar, Gaeta & Head!Six, S1 or S2, teen. Last time, tin requested fluff but the ficlet turned out creepy. This time, it's actually fluff. No beta. Have fun. :)
The Law Of Attraction
Irritably, Gaius tried to drown out Six. She was annoying him. She could ramble on when he talked to the President as much as she wanted to, but now he was in the lab. And, for a change, something interesting was going on.
Gaeta was bent over the lab table just next to him, and if Gaius took a deep breath, he could smell the soap the lieutenant had used this morning in the showers. Everybody on Galactica always smelled the same: military issue soap, military issue detergents. Fascinatingly though, Lt. Gaeta smelled so more than others, intensely clean and masculine. It was surprisingly magnetic.
“Dr. Baltar, are you still listening?” Gaeta asked softly, turning his head to look up from the chart, leaning in even closer.
“Of course I am,” Gaius said a bit more loudly than he had to, reassuring Six more than Gaeta. In the corner of his eye, he saw her smirk. “The law of attraction, you said.”
Gaeta gave him a cautious glance, obviously misinterpreting his outburst. He retreated a step, returning his attention to the chart with reluctance. “Yes,” he agreed, all the proper officer again. “Keeping in mind the Law of Electrostatical Attraction, we should just have to readjust…”
Gaius placed his hand on Gaeta’s. The lieutenant’s voice died down.
“Oh, Gaius,” the Six said. Gaius didn’t have to turn around to know she was shaking her head.
“It’s interesting that you should mention that law, Lieutenant” Gaius breathed, leaning in. It was the worst line ever. On every other given day, Gaius would surely have felt deeply ashamed of himself to even have considered using it. He’d used it because Lt. Gaeta was easy, he told himself. He’d known from moment one that he could have him if he wanted to, no work involved on his part. He had not used it because the lieutenant had been so overwhelmingly close during the last hour that he’d had to say something, anything, to make it happen now.
But the lieutenant made a small sound when their lips touched, his hand moving to let go of the chart, to wrap around Gaius instead, and it was hard to think overall.
Gaius suspected that the Six was still talking but didn’t pause to check.
