Thanks so much! :) Also, that's a lovely icon. Reminds me that I really liked that show the one time I saw it.

AWESOME! I love how Ray finally decided to let more of himself be shown to Neela. This is great!

It helps that he's completely and utterly helpless about his feelings for her. :) I'm not even usually a shipper in any fandom, but they're just so cute together. Thank you! :)

Ray's protective reaction once the fight began was nice to see. I think Neela's never going to look at 'human' - 'mutant' the same way again after seeing a bunch of armed special ops troops attack a school of children. It would be interesting to see what having her there at the school means politically down the road. I do love the continuing changes Ray's presence makes to the story. None of the major arc changes, but his being there impacts just exactly the right bits.

Ray/Neela is coming along fine. I'm glad he told her about the empathy at this point. It was one of those things that the longer he sat on, the worse it got.

No kidding. The fun part is that she used to be married to a military officer, and she hasn't been a fan of the US armed forces since he died in the first place. So if there's anything that'll make her take the mutants' side, sending in special forces to attack kids will probably get the job done.

It was one of those things that the longer he sat on, the worse it got.

This is true. I find myself amused (and a little in awe) about how it was perfectly in character for him to get to that point after only a day. There's something really joyous and innocent about their attraction to each other.

Awesome job on this chapter! I really liked the pacing of the action sequence here. That's a hard thing to get right, but you really made it work. The juxtaposition with the kiss scene was particularly effective. I found it really interesting how Ray's X-Man combat instincts so quickly overrode his more recently formed physician's instincts. I enjoyed Neela's reactions throughout; she would be just the sort of person to wonder about reproductive advantage while touring a school for superheroes;)

Yay you're back! Thank you! It's a lot of fun to get your reviews. :)

I think Ray's X-Man instincts, or rather his instincts to use his power, are something that he's trying hard to overcome but it doesn't always work. He overcompensates a lot when he doesn't use them (the empathy mostly), so I imagine they're still very much there. He wouldn't have to otherwise. Also it's more fun if he can participate in the battle. ;)
