I've seen those as a kid as well, never knew what they were called. They look a lot less vicious than they are, sucking the lifeforce out of their prey!

Some of them seem to get pretty big.

the one I had was almost an inch long, although compared to some of the other bugs people have been posting, that seems almost small.

I like the koa beetle. It's like a scarab beetle, but much flatter, and not too many people know about it.

wow those are great shots. Huge! evil yet beutiful.

In previous conversations, I've always thought you were referring to wind scorpians, instead of whip scorpions very similar but far less pretty.

Watching some videos on youtube make me glad I only have to deal with the infrequent black widow.

This has some other great shotshttp://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.richard-seaman.com/Wallpaper/Nature/Horrors/SunSpider.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.richard-seaman.com/

Oh, we've probably talked about wind scorpians too -- I had those running through my livingroom in Oceanside. Fast, aggressive little buggers! But definitely not beautiful like the whip scorpions.
