My pet just quit two jobs in a row selling cars. He says that trucks and SUVs simply ARE NOT SELLING. Used ones go for really really cheap, way below blue book. New ones often have to be sold under value. Bailout or no bailout, Chrysler, at least, is totally done for.
So this is a good sign. Americans are getting the clue by four and buying more fuel efficient cars.
I have two young kids in carseats, so I can't spool around in a sedan, but even I bought a MiniSUV from Honda that gets 23mpg (which was pretty good for an SUV type vehicle in 2001). I don't know anyone under 30 who owns a gas guzzler unless they really need it (like for farmwork, or a family of 8).

The trend is good. Have hope.
