Subbing isn't a bad deal; I know a couple of moms that do that. My aunt didn't like it because she felt that she couldn't adequately discipline the students for messing with her, but she now works with adults as a nationally-certified quilting teacher.
After looking at the Rollercoaster Kids pages, I fit almost all the list items for a sensory regulatory disorder. If it were a little closer to me, I would jump at volunteering there to do clerical work; I'm good at that kind of repetitive task and during TAKS testing there isn't as much for me to do at Laurel's school.
when you sub, just be picky! i'm still unemployed as well and have been subbing here in illinois (just like texas, doesn't require anything but a 4-year degree--and they don't even train. weird!). only problem is that they always try to stick you with the crappy classes. so don't just take what they want to give you if you don't feel up to it. believe me, i learned that lesson fast.
