I wouldnt even suggest attempting to look for a job in MI taching Ebglish when you're done, they dont need secondary ed english teachers, esp not female ones. no joke, it sucks. However, Arizona and other southernish states do (and by southern, I could mean pennsylvannia or fucking Ohio, so basicly "not michigan"), and it's not all that bad. I have two minors, History and Philosophy. it's very liberal, but it'll get me a good job. I would go with journalism now, because you love it, however you knwo you can always go back and major/minor again, or tack stuff on in Grad school. I also suggest eventually getting a masters/doctors if you want a good paycheck and quicker tenure.
Oh, and I also have to mention... EMU's a better teachers ed school :P HA! which is why I know all this JUNK!
ashley martin I miss you! but haha no actually I knew all that stuff too sorry darlin but I pretty much assumed I wouldn't be in Michigan, and to be honest I dont really want to be in Michigan anyway so I don't mind it really. Yeah I actually planned on getting my masters but like after I have a job because most likely if I am a new teacher with a masters they are going to higher the other guy without a masters so they can pay him less. And in fact, alot of schools will actually pay for their teachers to go back and get their masters after a few years so that would be good too. I also have been hearing from profs that the lack of jobs for teachers in Michigan is not as bad as it sounds to be, so who knows. Haha and I could just come back to good old Walled Lake and student teach and get hired here lol wouldnt that be cute? miss you talk to you soon!
well, the thing is, it depends on your subject and WHERE you want to teach. I dont see myself teaching in Deyroit, despite the need and the $$$. But, we wont be out for another 4 years ish... so the market always changes. Infact, a lot of new teaching cant take it and quit after 5 years... depressing.
