That sounds more like something the playwright Epiktetos would come up with after one too many cups at Dionysos' temple of wine. Who believes this stuff??

I believe it. Why would Polyxene lie?

Who's Polyxene and I think she's pulling your leg.

at least she has a name that sounds like a real name

You don't know Polyxene? She's the owner of the hostel. I don't think she's lying--she's not that kind of person, and it fits with everything else that's been said about Captain Dorieus.

...That's...

............

Well, that certainly puts a twist in things. It's more than possible he'll try to use the pirates to find a way out of his predicament, through violent means or something else.

But... I think what's even more alarming is that the Council would do something like that, and keep it under wraps for so long. Even if the captain is a good person and doesn't want to exact revenge on anyone, the Council... just what kind of people are we taking orders from, anyway...?

I was surprised when I found out, too. You're right. I've been thinking only about Captain Dorieus, but...

I don't know what Captain Dorieus or the Council might do, and I'm worried about everyone who might get caught in between if a fight escalates.

Well, there might be some details we're missing that would change the perspective a bit. Who were the people the captain brought in? Who are his crewmates? Are they still around? How does Polyxene know that, anyway? Does she have some sort of bias?

...How do we find out all this without outright asking people? That will only stir up more trouble than it's worth.

Polyxene already told me some of that. He saved the crew of a boat lost at sea in another storm, like the hurricane we just had. His crew still serves him now on his still, thankfully. I'm not sure Polyxene knows herself, but maybe she was here when it happened?

Hah! I knew this council was a bunch of bullshit! See, what kind of crap was that? What kind of justice do you call that shit, huh? If they were caught doing right but are known criminals than they should at least be given mercy and killed swiftly.

And to think, this city peacefully follows these bastards. I wouldn't lie to my people.

I wouldn't say they should be "killed swiftly," but...it's true. What they did was terrible.

Not all pirates and smugglers are bad. Not all. But the greater bulk of them are. Which is why I don't trust them.

In a manner of speaking, yeah. Former pirates. Like my father.
