Character is doused with water on the street from a window above.

It had been a normal day. He and Marta had just finished a round against the city watch, and after that battle they needed to stock up on gels again. The city watch was getting to be more capable now, which spelled good news for the city even if Emil had gotten a few extra scrapes from it. It was comforting to know they were in good hands…mostly, at least.

Emil’s normal day suddenly turned not-so-normal as he heard the rush of water and before he could react he was drenched all over.

“What?” he exclaimed, scrambling back as Marta ran towards him.

“Sorry!” a voice called from above them. Craning his neck up, Emil could see a man leaning out the window and holding a large bucket that he guessed had held the water. “I didn’t know you were there!” the man told them, looking a little apologetic.

“Well, watch where you’re dumping your water next time!” Marta shouted. “Do you usually do that without looking?”

“Marta, calm down,” Emil said. “I’m okay, see?” He wrung out his sleeves, whatever fabric it was shedding the water like magic (and okay, it was; Tenebrae hadn’t been kidding when he said his clothes were water-resistant back when he’d first become a “Knight” of Ratatosk).

“Oh, fine. But look down first next time, why don’t you?” Ignoring the man’s reply, Marta continued on to the shops and Emil following, still trying to shake off the water left. By the time they’d reached the shop he’d managed to get most of it out save for the parts of him that weren’t covered by clothing-his hair, for one, was still drenched.

“I have a feeling this is around the time when Tenebrae would make a joke at my expense and laugh at me,” he remarked as they looked over the shopkeeper’s selections. “It’s just the sort of thing he’d do.”

“He would, wouldn’t he?” Marta agreed. “I miss him.”

Emil paused before replying, thinking of Tenebrae in the Ginnungagap with Ratatosk and Richter. It had only been a couple weeks since he’d first been given this chance at life again and it still felt weird, knowing Tenebrae was with them and not him and Marta. “Yeah. I miss him too.”

More silence. “Emil?”

“Huh?”

“You’re dripping on me.”

“Oh!” Emil quickly stepped back, bringing a hand to his hair to find that it was, in fact, dripping water. “I’m sorry!”

Marta giggled. “No, you don’t have to apologize.”

“R-right.”

Marta turned back and surveyed the items on sale again. “Lemon gels, poison charms, stone bottles…there’s so much here, but none of this is going to help you dry up!”

Emil laughed. “You’re right.” Now that she’d brought it up he could feel the cold droplets on his neck, trickling down his shoulders and the exposed parts of his upper body. “Actually, I don’t think we have anything with us that would help either.”

“That can be changed!” Picking out a few gels Marta handed some Gald to the shopkeeper before pulling Emil out of the shop. “Come on, there’s got to be something we can do! Maybe we can get a towel at the inn, since we’re staying there anyway.”

“But Marta, it isn’t that important!” he protested. “It’ll dry by itself sooner or later.”

“Oh Emil, but you’d look so cute toweling your hair off!” And as Marta dragged him in the inn’s direction, Emil wondered how his face could feel so hot when the water on his skin was so cool.
