Outside isn't terribly familiar, sure, but there's still something comforting about just being there. Out, by the lake, and a brisk burst of wind sending ripples across the water, making it shine briefly in the fading light. Ennis turns around slowly, it ain't like he's deaf. His eyes squint a little, the two cigarettes like fireflies in the early evening darkness.

There's a cough, and an awkward shift.

"Don't know what you mean by that."

"Nothing serious," the other man admits, oddly gold eyes dancing in a way that suggests mischief -- and there's more than a little familiar about that, too.

Rather than pressing the subject further, the smirking guy pulls a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and shakes one free for Ennis, holding it up like a peace offering.

It doesn't smell like much of anything aside from tobacco.

Ennis takes it, holding it up to his nose before putting it in his mouth and motioning for a lighter.

"Thanks."

It's quiet, almost unwilling.

"'S nothing," says Ennis's smoking partner, waving the thanks away like smoke. "Least I could do, right? Solidarity and all that."

Big words, this fellah -- but he offers Ennis the light he wants with a flick of gold between his fingers. "Got it?"
