Mwahahahahahahaha! It begins! I know I'm a MUCH more prolific writer than most people, but I find blogging about fencing totally addictive!

You appear to be working on exactly the opposite of the things I need to. I'm more random than not which is probably how I win the occasional encounter. My strength is definitely not in the subtle movements either, I really need to learn to use my leverage to my advantage more often.

sidelong mentioned Laertes gave her some weights for arm-strength training... I definitely need to get on that. I've found that even a little bit of arm conditioning does wonders for my point control

Also may I suggest taking smaller foot steps. The feet a lot of times guide what the rest of the body does. It worked for me ;-)

What seems to have worked best for me is the mentality of "the sword pulls the hand along". I try to strike with the arm first, and use my whole body as a 'support system' for getting my arm to go where I want it to. It cuts way down on my telegraphing, which is super important because moving around my giant 6'6" meat-body takes a little more time than your average 4'11" Isles fencer.

When I'm feeling *especially* geeky, I like to imagine that my blade is cursed, and I'm just following its uncanny demands for more slaughter. If I can get really in the zone, I start to fall into Musashi's "void" mentality.
