A Reunion
Siwan/Kwanghee
PG / AU
Life is full of surprises, Siwan knew that, but when the unexpected of the unexpected rises before him, all he can do is be surprised. “Hello,” he stutters, gulping heavily; the awkward silence was piercing and deadly, “Kwanghee.”
The tall, now brunette, licks his lips and fidgets nervously. His eyes look at everything except for the male next to him. “Siwan,” He mumbles, nodding his head in acknowledgement.
It’s been seven years since they last saw each other, and they ended their connection on a rather bad note. For ten years they’ve grown up together; been best friends since elementary school. But a twist of fate tied their love strings together, to only have it cut apart later on and be left broken.
So when Kwanghee steps off of the bus to run, quite literally, right into Siwan, all he can do is look away with unease and cough away the tightening around his throat. On the other hand, all Siwan could do was stare shamelessly at his former lover with slight longing and old grief.
They stand side by side, the half a meter of space between them feeling much more like a mile. Siwan removes his gaze from Kwanghee’s still handsome face to the ground, tapping the toe of his shoe on the cement sidewalk lightly. He slings the bag on his shoulder higher and clears his throat. ‘I haven’t seen him for seven years, so why now?’
“Are… you catching a bus?” Kwanghee says, scratching the back of his neck and smiling nervously. ‘Of course he’s catching a bus; we’re at a bus stop! Stupid Kwanghee.’ He scolds himself.
Siwan returns the smile, making Kwanghee’s heart squeeze uncomfortably. “Yeah, heading home.” Siwan replies, heart fluttering at the sound of the other male’s voice.
This caught Kwanghee off guard. “Do you usually take the bus?”
“No… I usually get a ride with a co-worker,” Siwan says, finally looking up and making eye contact. His breath is knocked out of him as he maintains eye contact with those mesmerizing brown eyes. His eyes glaze over unknowingly as memorize, good and bad, flash by in his mind.
“Are you changing buses?” Siwan asks, clearing his throat and forcing on a smile.
Kwanghee nods and watches the smaller male with a pondering gaze. “Heard that you finally set up your own shop,” Kwanghee smiles softly, his hands itching to caress Siwan’s cheek, “Guess you achieved your goal.”
Utterly surprised, Siwan’s head snaps towards the other male. “You still remember?” A small smile paints across his lips.
Kwanghee chuckles, the awkwardness loosening slightly. “How can I not? It’s all you planned to do.”
A grin. “That’s true.” Siwan looks to Kwanghee. “What about you? It’s been seven years since we last saw each other… are you a producer now?”
“No,” Kwanghee sadly shakes his head and shrugs. “Got my PhD in medicine.” He laughs when Siwan gives him a funny look. “What?”
“You… you went to medical school?” Siwan says incredulously.
Kwanghee huffs and crosses his arms, “is something wrong with that?” He frowns when Siwan starts laughing. “Hey! I’m not the one who---“
Suddenly, the number nine bus rolls to a gentle halt before them.
“Ah, this is my bus.” Siwan says, voice laced with hints of sadness. Just when they were breaking that sheet of ice between them…
He hesitates for a while, a foot on the bus and biting his bottom lip in thought. Closing his eyes and making a decision, Siwan turns around. “I know a good cafe by my house,” he stares earnestly at Kwanghee. Something in him from seven years ago was still there, a deep feeling that only Kwanghee could stir.
“Would you like to have some coffee with me?” Siwan says hesitantly, not wanting to sound rude or desperate. Even though they ended on a bad note, the ten years of friendship and love was still there.
Kwanghee stares at Siwan with solemn eyes, his heart fluttering erratically. If he gets on, it means he’s willing to try again. If he doesn’t, it means that they should just start fresh and new. ‘Siwan…’ The feel of the sweet name, in his thoughts and tongue, felt so comfortable and easy. He wanted to call the male before him everyday, see his face every hour… it was a lie to say that his old feelings for this charming guy had disappeared.
He makes up his mind with a smile. Brushing Siwan’s hand gently, he walks on the bus. “Sure, I’d love to.”
