Oneshot - Haunted? Part 2

Sungmin later finds out that the boys name is Cho Kyuhyun. And that he was the one who put Sungmin on the bed when he fell unconscious after hitting his head whilst trying to run out of the room. (He also mentioned that he was the one that jumped out of closet when he opened it. The door was jammed and he was stuck in. He never explained why he was in there…).

The night went by slow, and Sungmin didn’t feel like going home anytime soon. Instead, he sat on the dusty bed, next to Kyuhyun, and just told each other stories; about themselves, their family and their friends.

Something about him made him trustworthy to Sungmin, and vice versa. Something felt so right, that no words could’ve described the mutual feeling they felt when their eyes first met.

Something told them that they were meant to meet.

“This is your family’s house?” Sungmin says, surprised. From what he knew of this old building, was that there hasn’t been anyone living in it for the past twenty years. And nobody knew who the owner was.

Kyuhyun nods. “I’m here to find some past information about my family tree. It traced back as far as this town and this house.” He looks to Sungmin; dark eyes meeting bright brown ones. “Looking for past, forgotten memories is always fun to do.” He whispers, showing his trademark smile.

Sungmin blushes, something he rarely does, and grins. “My friends and I were always told that this house was haunted. So when I was dared to come here, you scared the crap out of me when you were just standing there so casually.”

Kyuhyun smirks. “So it was you who fell and ran off.” He chuckles when Sungmin hangs his head. He ruffles Sungmin’s hair affectionately. “It was cute.”

Clearing his throat, and his blush growing, Sungmin combs hair back to place and avoids his eyes. “Anyways… we all thought you were a ghost, appearing out of nowhere so suddenly.” He laughs and carefully looks to the Kyuhyun. “Funny right?”

An unreadable expression passes through Kyuhyun’s eyes as he nods slowly. “Funny.”

Their eyes meet and the gaze holds. Sungmin felt like something was reeling him forward; closer and closer to Kyuhyun. By the time he blinked, they were merely centimeters apart from each other; the slightest movement and their lips would brush. He could feel the warm breath from Kyuhyun’s parted lips hovering just over his. Gulping heavily, Sungmin just shuts his eyes and stays immobile, but before anything could happen, the floor vibrates as the creak of the front door being slammed open echoes throughout the house.

“What the…?” Sungmin mutters, eyes wide and jumping to his feet. He rushes out of the room, momentarily forgetting and leaving the other behind.

He misses the coldness that flashes past Kyuhyun’s eyes.

“Did you serious not hear us banging on that door all night?” Kibum asks, disbelieving and dragging Sungmin down the sunlight filled street. “It somehow got jammed and we were trying to break it down!”

“No, I seriously did not hear you.” Sungmin mutters, frowning. He shakes them off and turns back to the house. “I was with Kyuhyun, he kept me company.”

The trio turns their quizzical eyes towards their friend. “Who?” Yesung says, squinting in the direction Sungmin was looking.

“Kyuhyun! The ghost, who is not really a ghost, that’s here to investigate his family heritage. The house, by the way, was his family’s.” Sungmin states, frowning when they look at him strangely. “What?”

“Do you believe him?” Hyukjae asks, looking at Kibum then to Yesung. Yesung just shrugs, still continuing to stare at house, while Kibum rubs his chin thoughtfully.

“We should do some investigating.” He concludes, dragging the unwilling Sungmin further down the street.

“I’ve spent my time in the library enough during school. But in the summer too?” Hyukjae moans and puts his head down on the table. “I’m breaking my oath…”

“Which is…?” Yesung says.

Hyukjae looks up. “To never enter a library, ever.”

“You have to go into one for university at some point.” Kibum states, flipping through old documents of the town’s history. His eyes flash with curiosity when he comes across a certain newspaper article.

City Hero Bu.ned to Ash.s

The cit..s own fire fighter, Cho KyuH..n’s home caught on fire last ni..t, ap.roximately aro.nd 3:20am. It is sti.l unk.own as to how t.is unfortunate event oc.urred, but the body of t.e fal.en hero has been disco.ered in the wreckage. ……

The fun.ral will take place th.s Saturday, open to a.l t.ose who wa.t to at.end. ….

“Half the article is gone…” Kibum murmurs, brows furrowing together in thought.

“And some words are smudged.” Sungmin adds, reading over the males shoulder. A worrying thought lingers as he sees the name in the article. ‘If those two letters were a y and an u…’ He shakes his head, ‘It could’ve just been a coincidence.’

“So basically, that house was burned down once, and then rebuilt later on.” Yesung clarifies, already finished reading the article on the next page.

“Seems so…” Kibum murmurs. “Cho Kyuh…” He frowns and looks to Sungmin. “The guys name was Cho Kyuhyun?” He shakes his head. “It’s suspiciously similar.”

A pang of dread hits Sungmin. ‘It couldn’t be… could it?’ He shudders. The warmth that he felt yesterday, and the closeness, the contact; it all felt so real. ‘Kyuhyun… a ghost?’

“And didn’t that journal you found have the initials ‘C.K.H.’?” Hyukjae informs, yawning slightly and on the verge of falling asleep.

Kibum nods. “Yeah. ‘C.K.H.’… Cho KyuHyun…” He raises an eyebrow and looks to Sungmin, “coincidence?”

Sungmin shakes his head side to side. He was confused; downright confused and distressed. “I don’t know…” He looks to his friends. “But he felt so real…”

Yesung and Kibum share a look and shrug. “I’m going to sign this out, or try and photo copy it. I’ll do some more research.” Kibum says, eyes glinting with faint excitement. Nothing kept him happy then solving unsolved mysteries.

“I can ask the retirement home and see what they know.” Yesung says, smiling a bit.

Then a snoring interrupts them. The three friends look down to see Hyukjae, sprawled on the table sleeping, drool and all. They share a look and roll their eyes.

“Shall we?”

“Let’s.”

Hyukjae wakes up an hour later to find himself alone at the table; his “friends” long gone.

They never did find the answer to the mystery of the house and the young boy. Kibum went back to the house to look for the journal, to find it gone. Yesung asked the elders of the town, of things they remembered of the past. But of course, with old age came bad memories and distractions from the topic. So Yesung spent five hours sitting on a chair listening to every person go through his or her life story for nine days.

Surprisingly, Hyukjae did find something somewhat useful; an article online showing pictures of rebuilding the old house… and a single picture of the grandson of the dead firefighter next to the newly built home. The picture was taken in 1934.

Sungmin kept it to himself, but the person eerily resembled Kyuhyun…

Soon, the mystery-that-never-got-solved (or Mission Unsolved as Hyukjae always calls it) never saw the light. Summer passes without any more encounters with the young boy, and soon it was time for the friends to part.

Yesung decides to stay in the town a while longer, partly because he wants to earn more money so he can travel before studying, and partly because he has a crush on the new cute librarian. (The trio always teased him about liking a younger guy…)

Kibum takes the first plane to America, going overseas to study law. The three others see him off with happy smiles, but the big shock came to them when Kibum suddenly kisses Hyukjae before entering the terminal.

“I already have a boyfriend, bastard!” Hyukjae shouts, rubbing his lips furiously, his cheeks cherry red.

Kibum smirks, eyes glinting with mischief. “I know.” He gives a cheerful smile to Yesung and Sungmin before he is gone.

Hyukjae moves to a city two hours away. Working as a dance teacher part-time and studying media arts at the local university. He also moves in with his boyfriend. (When he befriended the guy, nobody knew. The other three had a hunch it was when he was left alone in the library that day…)

Sungmin ends up living in the same city as Hyukjae, occasionally seeing his friend as they live fairly close. He studies business and oversea relations, achieving to become a CEO in the future. He also becomes quite the coffee addict, so is a regular at a certain café around the block.

He gets the shock of his life one fine Monday morning…

“Good morning Sungmin-sshi! The regular?” The cheery Hankyung greets him.

Sungmin smiles and nods, slinging his bag higher on his shoulder. “Yes please.” He rummages through his bag for his wallet.

“I think we’ve never had such a regular customer like you.” Hankyung comments brightly, giving back the card. He turns around to tap the shoulder of a man by the coffee maker. “This is Sungmin-sshi. You’ll need to get used to his face if your going to work the morning shifts, he’s a frequent regular.”

Sungmin’s heart beats rather fast and hard as he stares at the back of the, what seems to be, new employee. His voice catches in his throat as the person slowly turns around.

Sungmin swore his heart stopped beating.

His eyes widen impossibly wide as he points. “EH?! Kyuhyun?!” He shouts, before quickly covering his mouth.

The said male tilts his head to the side before smiling brightly and walking over to the counter. “Well, isn’t this a coincidence…” he smirks and holds Sungmin’s eyes. “Or maybe it is fate…?”

Hankyung looks from Sungmin’s surprised face to Kyuhyun’s amused one. “You two know each other? Great! Sungmin-sshi, unfortunately I won’t be taking the morning shifts from now on. So Kyuhyun will be taking over for me. It’s great that you guys already know each other!”

Sungmin laughs nervously. “Well, we don’t know each other that well.”

“Oh, but we will.” Kyuhyun says, winking.

“One Grande Americano, half-cream-decaf.”

Sungmin blushes profusely as he fidgets and grabs his drink. He scowls when he meets Kyuhyun’s playful gaze. He reaches out to grab for a lid when a hand, with long slender fingers, wrap around his wrist. Startled, Sungmin looks up to the owner of the warm, pale hand.

“I get off at two. Give me your number and I’ll pick you up.” Kyuhyun says lightly, giving Sungmin his trademark smile.

Sungmin rubs the wrist that Kyuhyun held as he walks out of the café with a goofy smile forming on his lips.

‘So warm…’ He smiles and carefully sips his drink. ‘My Mr. Ghost…’

A/N: One very long one-shot that… didn’t really have anything except for random humor. I kind of rushed the ending, because it was getting so long. But nonetheless, hope you enjoyed! And you know, it’s weird. I always tend to write these one-shots on the busiest weeks… But then, my one-shots don’t get finished unless I write them in one sitting… man, I fail o(_ _)Uo

On a side-note. OMG JAEJOONG DRAMA IS COMING OUT SOOOON! (I will watch it. Just for him. T^T I miss them so much omg.) And J.Rich’s MV with Yunho in it…THAT MAN CAN PULL OFF WEARING A SUIT SO DAMN WELL.

And I’m so addicted to ze:a’s all day… ever since it came out… I’ve been listening to it so much.
