(I guess these have been around online for a while but I just found out about them.)

Photographer James Mollison has been doing this series called "The Disciples" - composite images of concert-goers which highlight the ways music and fashion generate ad hoc tribal loyalties. Like so:

Oh, it's this rock class I've been teaching this summer; we just got done reading this book which prompted a big discussion on social taste and the way taste tends to coalesce around certain objects/groups and be shaped by the resulting social dynamics. This project is totally perfect to illustrate that.

You would love that book, by the way.
