I'm sure I did the math wrong. Also, I think I might have failed to take some expenses into account. I don't remember how much the armor repairs in South Window were, and I didn't take into account what I spent on Sigurd for his birthday in Tinto. It was absurd, that much I know. But we had to celebrate him turning 30 in style, since he was so far from his friends at the time.

I believe I have found new purpose in this journey. Traveling with Sigurd alone reminded me of the days when I traveled those same roads and visited those same towns, solo or with one or two other mercenaries. It was a good time. I had little to worry about except hiding True Lightning, and it was my opportunity to put the war behind me and live a private life as an unknown man. I hadn't realized that I actually missed those days. I value my companions and those who were my team in the SFDF, but those days have passed as well. It's time I returned to the simple lifestyle of traveling with only one other mercenary, and taking jobs at will. Budehuc doesn't need me. It will be a home base, but I believe I will be spending more time away from it than at it - come spring. We'll winter here, though.

Sigurd is a quick learner. He picked up land-based navigation by the stars in a snap, and is even starting to know his way around tracks, trails, and camping. Our partnership is so effortless, it astounds me. He almost knows what I'm thinking, we sometimes don't need words to communicate. Such a partnership is rare; even moreso if you add in the, ah...side benefits of the heart. I need not fear him leaving me. If circumstance transports him back to his own time, I am prepared - but I will continue on alone.

sigurd, travel
