I'm about...uh, well...I'm a little bit older than you, let's say...and I still feel 21 in my head. Twenty-one and very, very cynical. And a little weary.
Anyway, I think 30 is one of those natural points where you stop and ask yourself: how the heck is this going? It's different for everyone, of course, but I found it was a good time because I was a little more sure of myself than I had been and began doing better work (artistically). I had the energy of my 20s and the focus of my 30s, and it was a pretty cool time. So good stuff is to come. It's a good time to prioritize and plan because the time starts flying after a certain point.
You know what, you're doing well. Introspection is natural at this age, but I think you're fine. Nothing at all to worry about anyway. Admittedly, I don't really understand that whole obsession with the Oscars deal you have, but everyone has their thing. I don't even think about how old I am anymore. It's just a non-issue. Do what you do, do it well and without regret, and have fun.
Age is only a number on your drivers licence. And there's not a single reason why spring break can't be whenever you freakin' want it to be! Ya know?
I just went through a similar set of emotions a few weeks ago for mine. I think I get what you're feeling. We're not as fortunate as we might have wished, and not as screwed as some of our poorer choices might've warranted. Dissatisfied with work, but not enough to quit. Still very young, but wondering where the time went. Gotcha.
I honestly think you've done very well for yourself. I consider you one of the more accomplished people with whom I'm acquainted...you've got some killer credentials. Also, you married just the right person for you, moved to the city with the right theater company for you, and have a promising artistic future. From the outside, you look fabulously set. And I think it's that way on the inside, too...if only those pains in the ass would stop hassling you.
Sometimes I wonder if I am where I am today because I didn’t think much about my goals or dreams or shit like that. I just sort of plugged along, did what was fun for me, endured what was important for others and figured fate would take care of the rest. It many ways it seems to have been a good approach.
Christ, I know what you mean. We really need to get a beer. See you in 6 weeks.

In short: have a good birthday. Glad you're here.
