And he's already got a stupid looking hat, so there is *my* corpse phobia right there.

I know you respect him, and I probably shouldn't have been such a dick right before he died, but I'm still living in hope that his successor will be more progressive. I know he was a good person, but some of his opinions were still pretty 1800s.

I dunno. Apologizing to the Jews for centuries of Catholic hatred (especially during WWII), calling out world leaders for their shady dealings and war mongering, encouraging and elevating catholics in 3rd world countries to positions of power and chastising the old guard for not having respect for those countries, supporting the overthrow of tyrannical governments... hmmm... those are pretty good things.

Thanks for pointing this out about the shoes. Very astute little observation there. Where, indeed, is he walking to?

Tell you what freaked me out was that little GPS unit they tucked under his folded hands....

There was actually a little snippet about the shoes on the news. Because the pope is laid out for days without a coffin he has to wear shoes. Popes in the past have worn their custom made slippers. However, this pope insisted on wearing his good walking shoes in life and death. Kind of interesting... but very creepy. But I was glad he was wearing shoes. Can you imagine the numerous shots of his bare little old man feet hanging out. That is even creepier.
