T is for Tears
Horatio had never seen Archie cry.
Archie had suffered abuse by Simpson, imprisonment and torture by the French and the Spanish, and a festering bullet wound in the stomach, but Horatio had never once seen him cry.
Until today.
Horatio sat on the bed next to Archie and held him in his arms, whispering I would never have left you for anything, Archie - thought you were dead and something in me died too - couldn’t sleep, couldn’t eat - almost couldn’t believe it when they told me you were alive and I didn’t know what to do - You’ve sacrificed everything for me, and I felt like I couldn’t face you until I’d cleared your name, cleared that bloody mess in Kingston - Please forgive me - I love you…
The confused, guilty torrent of confession was stopped by a kiss. They kissed like they were drowning, like they had never kissed before, and when they had to pull apart for breath Horatio saw that tears were running down Archie's cheeks. As Horatio gently kissed the tears on his lover's face away, he was startled by the unfamiliar taste - and he realised that it was because he had never seen Archie cry before.
