Albert Hosteen speaks over the flames.
"There is an ancient Indian saying that something lives only as long as the last person who remembers it. My people have come to trust memory over history. Memory, like fire, is radiant and immutable while history serves only those who seek to control it, those who douse the flame of memory in order to put out the dangerous fire of truth. Beware these men for they are dangerous themselves and unwise. Their false history is written in the blood of those who might remember and of those who seek the truth."
The fire is from the boxcar.
Government men barge into Albert Hosteen's home.
CSM asks where Mulder is. He wants the files.
A soldier hits Albert with his gun.
Scully comes into the house.
Albert, all bloody, tells Scully the men were looking for Mulder.
Scully runs down to the boxcar.
"MULDER!!!!"

Navajo Reservation.
Scully is driving down the highway. A helicopter is following her. It lands next to her car.
Government soldiers get out and force her out of the car.
Agent Mulder has the files.
They leave.
FBI Headquarters.
Scully is given a leave of absence for her disobedience.
She tells them that to the best of her knowledge Mulder is dead.
Scully leaves.
Skinner follows her out and argues with her.
"With all due respect sir, I think you overestimate your position in the chain of command."
FBI Basement
Scully goes to get the tape. It's gone.
NYC
The Syndicate discusses what will happen now that the files have been discovered.
CSM informs them that Mulder is dead, the other people involved have been killed, and the files have been retrieved.
Ma Scully's house.
Scully arrives and starts to cry. She thinks she has made a terrible mistake and that her father would be ashamed.
Navajo Reservation
Some boys have noticed buzzards by the boxcar.
Albert Hosteen and others go back to find Mulder.
Albert sees an alien corpse as he takes Mulder's body from the wreckage.
They carry Mulder to a shed and prepare to hold a ceremony-- The Blessing Way chant.
Only the holy people can save Mulder now.
Albert Hosteen performs the ceremony.
Scully's Abode
Scully can't sleep.
Frohike comes to the door.
He has heard about Mulder.
Scully invites him in and makes him coffee.
Frohike informs Scully that Kenneth Soona has been killed the day AFTER Mulder disappeared.
Navajo Reservation
Albert Hosteen performs the ceremony.
Mulder's body searches for rest.
He floats in space.
Deep Throat appears. He tells Mulder to go back.
Images of aliens trapped in the boxcar with poison gas.
Mulder's father appears. He is ashamed of the choices he, himself, has made.
"You are the memory Fox. It lives in you. If you were to die now, the truth will die."
FBI Headquarters. Lobby.
Scully has to go through the front door now.
She goes through the metal detecter. It beeps.
The guard scans her. Nothing. He lets her through.
Skinner's Office.
Scully tells Skinner about the Kenneth Soona news article.
She says it can prove Mulder didn't kill his father.
Skinner tells her it's not helpful.
Scully wants him to check on it.
"I think you underestimate the duties and responsibilities of my position as assistant director."
Skinner asks about the digital tape.
She tells him she doesn't have it.
He tells her to go home.
She leaves. CSM enters.
He is still looking for the tape.
Scully is leaving the building.
She goes through the detector again.
It beeps.
She asks for the wand. It buzzes around her neck.
Doctor's Office
Scully looks at her X-ray
She sees something in her neck.
The doctor sees a tiny scar on her skin. He extracts the a piece of metal.
Navajo Reservation
Albert Hosteen cares for Mulder after the ceremony.
Mulder is alive.
He gives Mulder a ritual bath.
Mulder is reborn.
Doctor's Office.
The doctor and Scully examine the metal under the microscope.
It's a computer chip
Scully's abode.
Scully shows Melissa the chip.
She wants scully to find out what it is.
Scully says she doesn't have access to the FBI anymore.
Melissa says she is talking about access to her own memory.
Scully looks pained. She won't hear of it.
Melissa says Scully is shut off from her intuition and the memory of what really happened.
Dr. Mark Pomerantz. Psychotherapy Regression Hypnosis Energy Fields.
Dr. Pomerantz hypnotizes Scully.
Before she was taken, Scully was afraid that she would die.
Men took her. There was a light and loud sounds. There was an alarm.
Scully has to stop. She doesn't think it's getting anywhere. She leaves.
Scully's Car.
She sees Skinner leaving her house.

Mulder is restored.
The boys give him sunflower seeds.
Apparently he asked for them during his worst fevers.
Skinner's office
Scully calls Skinner and asks why he was at her apartment
He tells her she was making a mistake. He hangs up.
Skinner tells CSM he needs some air.
Space.
Mulder is talking to someone.
Scully wakes up suddenly. A dream.
Garden of Reflection. Boston, MA.
Mulder's father's funeral.
Scully introduces herself to Mulder's mom.
Scully tells her she thinks Mulder is still alive.
Well-Manicured Man steps out from behind a grave.
He tells her his consortium is threatened by the digital tape and that Mulder is dead.
Scully is in danger too. He says they'll kill her.
"The best way to predict the future is to invent it."
Martha's Vineyard, MA
Mulder's Mom arrives home. Mulder is there.
He wants to know who the people in his father's pictures are.
She doesn't remember.
He presses her.
She says they were at the house but she doesn't remember their names anymore.
He thinks it has to do with Samantha.
Scully's abode.
Melissa calls. She says she's coming over.
The phone rings again. No one is there.
Scully calls Melissa back but she is gone.
Scully leaves to go to Melissa's instead.
She takes her gun.
Skinner pulls up as she is leaving.
He tells her to get in the car.
Mulder's Palace.
Skinner and Scully go inside.
Scully pulls her gun on him.
She wants to know who sent him.
"No one sent me."
Scully's Abode.
Melissa goes inside.
Men are already in there.
They shoot her, thinking she is Scully.
Krycek looks at her.
"Let's get out of here."
Mulder's Palace.
Skinner says he has the digital tape.
He took it out of Mulder's desk.
Someone is at the door.
Skinner pulls his gun on Scully.
