No, no beard. Well, a wife.

So, now that the first part of the Doctor Who Christmas Special has actually aired in the US, here are my thoughts:

- The Master is back, and that's awesome as always. John Simm is great in the role, and now he's gone extra crazy. His little rants about food showed the brilliance that is John Simm. "Meat and bear and cream and roast and bloooood..."

- Donna's granddad is the most adorable old man ever. (Aside from, maybe, my dad.)

- I expected a big, unrealistic cavalcade of all the Doctor's old companions showing up again (Rose, Mickey, Martha, Jackie, Captain Jack, K-9) but so far we've just seen his most recent companions coming back, which is nice. A whole bunch of the other companions are scheduled to come back for part 2, but the writers have said that a lot of the episode will have fantasy and dream sequence elements, so hopefully they'll just show up as dream sequences.

- The epsidoe had two endings, which is good, because the first of the two endings was undeniably stupid. The Master has replaced everyone on earth with himself? C'mon. I'm usually pretty tolerant of Russell Davies ridiculous plots, but that was just stupid. And the Nazi imagery was a little too over the top: the extra Aryan Master, now with blonde hair, replaces everyone on the planet Earth, including several African Americans, and calls it the "Master Race." Thankfully, there was a second ending.

- So, let me get this straight: In the Doctor Who universe, Obama is the President, but he wasn't preceeded by Bush, he was preceeded by that guy who was killed by the Toglofane? Okay.

-The Time Lords are alive? Okay, pretty big surprise. I guess it shouldn't have been because Tim Dalton was listed in their cast list as a Time Lord, b tu I guess I just didn't think it was giong to really happen. But there was the much bigger mystery in my book: WHY ARE THEY EVIL? They're ROOTING for the end of time? Okay, last time we saw the Time Lords, they were annoying, stodgy, and occasionally misguided. I mean, this is the race that tried to make the Doctor their president and then, a few years later, had him put on trial with the intent to execute him (Then again, that was the 6th doctor, so who didn't want to execute him?). But, the entire race is trying to bring about the end of creation? What the hell is going on? This is the reason why I'm excited for next weeks finale.
