Advice on Publishing Sought

Feb 08, 2011 14:45

I just confirmed that I have a result that is worthy of publishing. However, not being in an academic institution anymore, how do I go about publishing something? Any advice?

Addendum: Yes, this is the math result I was talking about earlier.

You don't need to be part of an academic institution to publish - you can just do it the same way, just list your company or something instead of a university. You would need to clear it with your management, of course, and they would take care of the publishing fees, too.

(I'm assuming this was work done as part of your job, rather than just on your own.)

I *think* he means the math stuff he's been working on lately.

Eddy, can you please update your post so it's less vague?

This is indeed the math result I have been doing on my own, not as part of my job.

I don't actually know for sure, but I think you can just publish without any academic or company affiliation (technically). However, the publishing fees can be pretty steep ($600-$1000 for some of the journals in my field) and I also suspect that the journal politics may cause editors or peer reviewers to discount papers by unaffiliated authors. This may be too cynical though. I'll ask around and see what my colleagues think.
