How come in U.S. society ('cause I'm from the states and would rather not make an ass of myself trying to add in other countries) two girls can kiss each other's cheek, stare into each other's eyes while smiling and walk down the street holding hands and people assume they are best friends while two guys who kiss each other's cheek, stare into ( Read more... )

In the UK, Vitorian era, Victoria refused to belive in Lesbians because sex ws something a woman did as a faovur for a man, she wasn't expected to enjoy it.

This meant it was far easier for to women to share a house (and even a bed) and have people beleive that it is becausethey were unfortunate not to marry and are now too poor (being without a man to provide for them) to do otherwise.

If two men did the same thing, they would be accused of sodomy.

It's probably a hang on from that, men are seen as more sexual/more driven by sex and therefore people are more likely to think that they have sex on the brain no matter what they're doing.
