A.N.: Sorry It's so late, I'm sick and couldn't drag myself out of bed until late.
Someone has rewired the computer to sing christmas carols and somehow "O Holy Night" sung in that monotone female voice is more terrifying then being forced to sit through his daughter's first recital, certain that he was the only dad who had been forced into a pink shirt by his daughter's wide tear-threatening eyes.
Bones decides that today is not going to be a good day and tries to go back to sleep but Jim stay-up-till-all-hours-of-the-night-and-still-manage-to-be-annoyingly-cheerful-too-god-damned-early-in-the-morning Kirk bounces on the bed like a puppy and forces him to wakefulness.
"C'mon Bones it's time to get up. You know what today is right? Right?"
"Tuesday." Bones grumps and Jim grins, because it's almost an in-joke now the way Bones always guesses tuesday even when he knows good and well it aint.
"Close, it's Joanna day."
And that's when Bones catapults to full wakeful-ness because today is the day they pick up Joanna for the two week trip around Earth on the Enterprise, light duty for the grand ship, but it's her turn on the roster to stand sentry over earth and Bones set this up months in advance.
From there the day seemed to only get worse. Jocelyn was late to the spaceport, so Joanna had to wait another 4 hours for the next one. Then the damn engineers decided it would be fun to go tinkering with the engine while they were in orbit and that ended disastrously. Bones was busy in sickbay when Joanna arrived and due to one thing and another she was stuck with Spock for three hours. She was crying when Leonard arrived and Spock was standing stiffly off to the side, looking distinctly uncomfortable. McCoy gave him a dirty look as he left, daughter safely rucked up on his hip, her face buried in his shoulder. He had finally gotten her calmed down when she realized she'd forgotten Mr.Bear, her stuffed cat.
He was ready to pull his hair out or offer her the klingon crown jewels if she'd just stop crying when Jim appeared.
"Hey Sweetie. Look who just beamed up." And Jim held up Mr. Bear.
"Thank you uncle Jim!" Joanna said, jumping up and hugging his knees.
Much later after an exhausting day spent showing Joanna around the Enterprise she was tucked into bed and he went to find Jim.
"Thanks for that." He said.
"Anytime Bones, you know that." Jim said wrapping his arms around Leonard's waist. "Guess what I've set up for christmas?"
"Jim, christmas isn't till next week." Bones said.
Jim shrugged.
"So? You know little kids love decorating christmas trees and I've roped Spock into helping Joanna. I told him he couldn't argue with her decisions on the placement of the ornaments."
Bones laughed.
"I love you, Jim." He said.
"Yeah, you too." Jim said.
He glanced up and grinned.
"Look Bones, Mistletoe." Bones barely had a moment to glance up at the hanging greenery before he was being kissed to an inch of his life.
"DADDY! eww, Kissing!" and Joanna was off again giggling down the corridor, telling everyone that "Uncle Jim and Daddy were Kissing."
Jim laughed and volunteered to round her up.
"Thanks Jim."
"Anytime Bones."
