So I am sitting here at the coffee shop, away on a work retreat to make up for all the mindless hours lost during the week, when ever-so-casually do I spot the newspaper sports section on an adjoinding table (/ dig through the crumpled up newspaper hidden over in the corner). Spock! You are actually commenting on my post! Je suis trop excite! The Twins are Minnesota (my state)'s baseball team. Belgians don't play baseball, unfortunately (though they should). Belgians have amazing football teams instead. A "total Twins long-hauler" is ... well, I suppose it is somebody who has been a Twins fan for a very long time. I just invented the word, so don't feel like your English is at fault. Et c'est trop bon de te voir interesse par baseball! Si tu as des questions par ce sport, tu m'appeller tout suite!

Spock, I agree with you, wholeheartedly -- entertaining yourself with sports (or television, or n'importe quoi) is of course secondary to being bien dans sa peau. And it is true that many people probably do obsess over sports or any other thing, as a distraction from not loving themselves. But what hobby does not do this, potentially? I know a lot of people who distract themselves with work, or alcohol, or soap operas ... No matter what the supposed *vice*, I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with baseball, a glass of wine, or watching a sitcom on television, and so I do my best not to categorize any single hobby as "the wrong one". If you do it with good intention, and sound spirit, that is all I care about. Though I agree with you, it feels damn good to be in health yourself, and I wouldn't give up my own well-being for any professional sports team! Nevertheless, I do still enjoy obsessing over [American] football and (very recently, damn you Mena and Sally!) baseball, mostly just because I like talking about it during ( ... )
