The fires of Hate Burn Bright

Aug 16, 2006 00:53

Its been a while since I wrote, but this needed to be said. I received an email today, one of those forwards you get from your friends and family. This one, however, struck me as particularily offensive. Not just "bad and tasteless joke" offensive, but "I am an ignorant ass who wants to push my beliefs on others" offensive. And so I thought I ( Read more... )

You shouldn't feel so alone. The Republicans have been more openly racist every succeeding day. Maybe you heard about that senator who greeted one of his staff members - an Indian who had been a naturalized citizen most of his life - as a variety of "monkey" in front of his supporters, saying "Welcome to real life in my state." (Yeah ( ... )

I received the same email from my stepmother, along with a bunch of fundie crap that I get on almost a daily basis. She's a die-hard Bush supporter, fundie christian, conservative with blinders on, who is ALL FOR the war in Iraq and any other country that needs to be "christianized."

Honestly, how my dad ever married her I'll never know. If he hadn't died when they were newlyweds, I'm sure they'd have been divorced before 2 years had passed.

That's another thing that makes me furious. When they hear about some other country thousands of miles away that is run by Muslim extremists, and no other religion is allowed, they are all for beating them up and allowing them to see the light. But here in our own country, when a non-Christian religion is pushed down, marginalized or even disrespected, they don't care. They whine and moan about how some Muslim church agenda is running those other countries and how we should take the religion from the government agenda. When someone tries to separate church and state here in the states, and asks that an obvious Christian reference be taken from governmental buildings and funding, they scream bloody murder and claim they are martyrs. When people are persecuted in another country for owning a Bible, they want to send in troops to kill those responsible for the opression. When Dubya, before becoming president, spoke of banning Wicca and other pagan based religions from the military, he was cheered. And don't give me the crap about ( ... )

Don't argue logic with fundies. You'd have better luck convincing a brick wall to play fetch.

I totally understand your anger but when I get something like this I feel my best course of action is to hit delete. This keeps from perpetuating the right-wing fundie red-neck hawk mentality.

As much as I agree in theory, it also helps to promote their way of thinking. After all, if no one disagrees with them, then they feel everyone agrees with them. And that "if you don't like how it is, you are invited to leave" attitude is even worse. In a REAL democracy, if I don't agree with you, and don't like how it is, I vote against it. Sadly, ignoring the problem only gets Bush elected again, as we saw in 2004. What we need to do is get all those lazy people off their arses who didn't vote against Bush to get out there. Josh at work actually said something profound and true. The problem is the Democrats complain in the media. The Republicans complain at the polls. Its time the Democrats and the fence sitters started complaining at the polls. Kerry may not have been the best choice, but he's a damn sight better then the Shrub. Hell, Cthulhu would have been an improvement. At least then we know Armageddon is on his agenda. That and tentacoo wape!

I don't see why deleting it and not forwarding it along is a bad option. It doesn't spread the poison. I didn't say do nothing at all, I was just speaking in reference to the email.
