Sometimes Love Comes From Unexpected Places

Chapter 1

“Candidate for the position of personal assistant is here, Sir.”

This was probably the worst day…

Lex took a deep breath and rubbed his forehead. He had woken up to find out the Lexcorp stocks had slid down 7%. SEVEN Percent, dammit.  This was unusual, most probably a deliberate effort.

He had reached office only to find out that Gabe had to leave early in morning to check out the explosion at one of his Smallville Labs.

Then his father had dropped by to show his support for stock plunge, in a very artistic verbal manner.

As if this wasn’t enough, his babysitter had had to leave immediately at around 3 in the afternoon, claiming family emergency. So, presently, his two little precious daughters were running around his posh Metropolis office, not only filling the entire room with loud giggles and babble, but also scattering their toys and cookie crumbs all over the plush mauve carpet.

And now, he had to meet with this moron who seemed to think he was capable to be his personal assistant.

“Did he check out?” he snapped.

Laura, his secretary who was used to such moods, replied calmly, “Yes Sir, he’s clean. Seems quite competent, too. And…eager. I think you will like him.”

Lex trusted Laura about such things. She had been working for him ever since he formed Lexcorp, almost 9 years ago. She was good at her job and was, ofcourse, well rewarded.

Lex took another deep breath, “Alright, send him in.”

There was a small knock on the door and a head covered with thick brunette locks peered in, crystal blue eyes seeking his permission.

Lex gave a curt nod and 6”3 tall young man with innocent looking face entered slowly, almost hesitantly. He looked around the office, just to stop briefly at the twins playing Barbie, and then focusing on Lex.

“Hello, Mr. Luthor.”, he said.

“Clark Kent, I presume. Please have a seat.”

“Thank you, sir”

“Tell me something about yourself, Mr Kent.”

“Well, Sir, I have done my graduation in Agriculture Studies, with Business Management.”

Lex knew this, ofcourse. “Agriculture Studies?”, he asked, curiously.

“I planned on joining my father to take care and develop our farm in Smallville. But when my father passed away, we had to sell the farm due to financial problems.  My mom is also getting old, so I decided to move here and find a job that will help me support her.”

This young man was not a moron after all, thought Lex. Clark was wearing a white shirt and loose beige blazer with a tie that was probably bought at Wal-Mart sale. He seemed a little nervous, but his eyes sparkled with excitement even trough the thick glasses that did no justice to them.

“Smallville, huh? I have several labs there, not to mention, the Luthorcorp crap factory.” Lex twitched into a smile, and Clark smiled back softly.

“Yes, sir. I was…”, he was cut off by something hitting his leg. Clark looked down to find a small furry purple ball. He picked it up just as the little girl with strawberry blonde curls came strutting towards him. “Here you go, sweetie.”, he said handing the ball to the girl, who trotted off happily.

Clark looked up to find Lex smiling at him. Clark smiled and lowered his beautiful eyes shyly.

“This is not going to be an easy job Mr Kent.” Lex stern voice brought Clark back to the business at hand.

“I am a very hard working person, Mr Luthor.”

“Good. See, Laura is already being burdened with a lot. Your job will be to run thousands of errands for me….photocopying, faxing, recycling, shredding, delivering and receiving files, packages, curriers, taking messages, anything and everything. You will take orders and report to me directly. OK?”

“Yes, sir”

“I expect you to be on call 24/7. If I ask you to pick up my laundry, you will do it. Is that clear?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Good. You can pick up your appointment letter and payment details from Laura”

“Popa! Lookee…Lucy cop!” Lex turned around with a smile to look at his daughter holding a water-gun in her hand, and sprayed it all over his Armani shirt. Only, it wasn’t plain water but colored liquid, and now Lex’s favorite lilac shirt had big dark red stain on it.

Lex slowly turned back around and asked, “When can you start?”

“Immediately, sir.”, Clark replied promptly, trying hard not to laugh.

“Excellent. Your very first errand. Go to the penthouse and pick up a fresh shirt for me.”
