Noting, on Pandagon, one of my favorite blogs, a meme based on an absolutely idiotic list of the "greatest albums ever" (which can be found here), here is the official list of the Greatest Albums of All Time:

I tend to agree that the Doors are overrated. OTOH, I never get tired of hearing "Peace Frog," "Moonlight Drive, or "Soul Kitchen." And "LA Woman" has one of the greatest opening bits ever.

I snap my fingers at your estimation of Cream.

*snap*

I assume you've actually heard Disraeli Gears and aren't writing it off as an album just because you aren't familiar with it...

I've owned three or four copies of Disraeli Gears over the years. It has some great songs on it (including Tales of Brave Ulysses, which is one of my favorite songs, period), but it's got too many songs I skip over for me to like it as an *album*. SWLABR is just silly, and Felix Pappalardi was a better songwriter for Mountain than he ever was for Cream. (The Derek and the Dominoes album, on the other hand, is an *album*, and would have made my top 25 if I had extended it that far.) As far as albums go, I probably listen to Wheels of Fire more....

I get liking the White Album a lot, especially in these heady days of the skip button. I can even wrap my mind around liking it better than other Beatles albums. But I can't wrap my mind around putting it first yet not having, say, Revolver or Abbey Road somewhere up there too.

I limited myself to one album per band, or the top 10 would probably be all Beatles, Stones, Dylan, and VU. Revolver is probably my 2nd-favorite Beatles album, and Abbey Road is 3rd. Sgt. Pepper is overrated. Rubber Soul is underrated.

Sorry, you did say that. Clearly I have crappy reading comprehension today.

I'm with you on Sgt. Pepper (and on Rubber Soul, but I have a fondness for the early stuff, to RS, which is probably based more on sentiment than on merit.)
