Thanks miraje. I've wrote the guy at NWS in my area last night, but with the expected storms we look to get today, I may not hear back from him for a few days.
Besides, I wanted to find out first hand from someone what to expect if/when I can get signed up for this. :-)

I am a coop observer for Carthage,Mo and have been for over 13 yrs. The Wx service came to me looking for some one todo that and of coarse I did it.

You may want to ask the local NWS in your area if they need one in your town.

Now they have at the local NWS what the call CWIPS they are volunteer obsevers.I would say you will want to check at your local NWS.

Hope I helped.

Thanks for the info. I looked up Springfield, MO and read what the CWIP stood for and what they do. I like that. However, I don't think our NWS does anything like this, at least they don't show it on their web site, but I did email the COOP person who works with this and I'll find out if they do do a CWIP.
Thank you again for the info.

I'm signed up as a spotter with the San Diego WSFO, but unfortunately, living as I do in a condo, I've got no place to install proper instrumentation. If I did, I'd probably do the co-op thing as well.

Yeah living in a condo does make it alittle hard to place instruments doesn't it? *g*
I got word from my NWS that since I was outside their 5 mile range from the last co-op observer that I didn't make the cut.
