Last week before school starts, and there are still too many things I said I'd do but haven't. I did make 16 Christmas cards though; I need to make some more.
Here are my craft pics, as promised:
I started spinning this at the end of last summer. It took me almost all of July to do for some reason, but I do like it. It really reminds me of Knit Picks Palette yarn - which is both cool and uncool (uncool cuz it means I could've bought it for like $5 from Knit Picks, but cool that it looks like something commercial). 3 oz of Brown Sheep Studio mill ends fibre dyed by lapoli on Etsy. 392 yds.
It looks quite nice in this pic, but I'm not really happy with this one. This was my attempt at spinning thick-ish again, so it's not really even throughout, but not too bad. But the joins were done really terribly, so every once in a while there's this loose fluff. And I still suck at Navajo plying. 3.8 oz of domestic wool dyed by TheFiberDenn (Etsy); 152 yds total.
My first time plying two different strands together. This is domestic wool (also TheFiberDenn) plied with wensleydale-teeswater (Fleece Artist). The wens-tees is shiny and can get pretty thin, but it's denser than I thought so I had some trouble getting the yardage I wanted. 75 g total, 96 yds. But I like single strands better than the plied, so I still have another 90 g of singles that I'm just gonna leave together.
And this is what I'm working on now, that I started right before going to Boston. The singles are all done so I just need to ply, but I think I hurt my left arm from spinning too much, so I'm putting the plying on hold. Aiming for a 3-ply sock yarn, because apparently that's what people spin, lol. (Also cuz I never buy enough of any colourway to make anything but socks or hats, and I don't wear hats.) 3.8 oz domestic wool, TheFiberDenn.
It's taken more than a year, but it's doneee!! And I miraculously had a frame for it at home, completely unplanned. There's an identical one by Dimensions (this is by Creative Accents - they might be the same company in disguise?), and that one's more expensive and feels softer, but now that it's framed who can tell? Heh. = )
Yes, my halter, which I wore a few weeks ago, proving that it's functional. Yes!!! Clea mercerized cotton, 3 strands held together to get the approximately correct gauge (the pattern calls for Patons Grace). The strap is actually supposed to be a knit cable, but I was too lazy for that, so it's just a twisted cord. I have another one I made ages ago with acrylic, but it was a tad too big for me and I never finished the edging across the top, I haphazardly just did a very poorly crocheted edge. Fixing the white one is actually one of my 101 goals, as was this. Yay!!!
So this was quite a productive summer, craft-wise, but it seems I spent a lottt of time indoors, lol. Considering how cool this summer was, in retrospect I'm kind of sad. But it's not like my parents would've been happy with me out all the time anyway.
Anyways, this post took so long to finally get to because I got sidetracked and started looking at LJ layouts. I kind of stared at some coding and tried to figure some of it out, but at most I only know how to barely tweak an existing code (like, making a border blue instead of black). Would anyone be able to help me? I really just wanna learn how to add a header with links in S1. The wallpaper/background I'm thinking on. And I'm not good enough with images to make a pretty header/background either, but I think Chris is helping me in that department - thanks = )
And lastly but absolutely not least, Happy belated Birthday,
hellfire_angel! *squishes you* I miss you so!
