I saw Brunelleschi's giant model dome when I was in Florence this year - so interesting. The whole history of these big domes is fascinating - from the Pantheon to St Paul's. I saved a picture I found that showed how relatively tiny Christopher Wren's dome is compared to Michelangelo's St Peter's and how the construction was so different. Well worth a look!

i'm jealous! we didn't get a chance to go inside anywhere and now that i'm reading about it i reallllly want to see the model. and i bet st peter's dome is bigger than st paul's! st peter's is HUGE. (i have a poster with a cutaway of st paul's showing all three domes. now i need one of the duomo. :D )

Found the reference pic of the other two domes for comparison - it would be really cool to have both the Firenze Duomo and the Pantheon on here to see where they all fit!

oh, that's fabulous! it makes st paul's look so little! i hope someone has added at least the duomo for comparison, at least for height, altho it would be really cool to see how big the pantheon is in comparison, considering how old it is and how different construction techniques must have been in ancient rome.
