Whoa this was a long one! Had to stop part way down to say - Nightshifter and Ronald! I rewatched that one the other week and its SUCH a good episode. I don't think Ronald even gets that much actual screen time, but he was so memorable and instantly sympathetic. Seasons 1 and 2 - my heart.

Oh oh book recs - have you read Maria Doria Russell's The Sparrow? It's sci fi but the thoughtful, thought provoking kind and added bonus, Jesuits in space!
Ah the midnight bark! (And of course the beacons of Minas Tirith - and going back to canon moments whether reading the book or watching the films, Theoden's red day speech never fails to move me).
