After all these years, I don't hate Nakuru anymore. She's still *super* annoying while she's jumping all over Touya, but in light of how he yoinked Sakura's ice cream with zero remorse, he kind of deserves it ( ... )

Eriol, on the other hand... I still hate his kid voice. It's so whispery.

And creepy!

I believe this is the part in the manga where he calls Yukito "that loser"?

Haha, one of my favorite parts.

But, over time I've come to really feel for Yukito, too, because he doesn't know what is happening to him. Someone should have told him sooner.

Or the disguise could have just been dropped now that it's not needed, but whatever.

per episode 47:

Here it is, the Big Three, the final trimester, the wind-up for our grand finale. It's too bad I can't feel more excited. I'm not quite sure why - it's not the longest season, that being season 1. And it's not as if stuff doesn't happen, because if anything it's the most different and unique out of the three, and indeed lots of incredibly important stuff does happen. The problem, I think, is the pacing. All of the really important stuff (Sakura's confession to Yukito, Touya's sacrifice, Eriol's unmasking) gets jammed in at the very end and it all happens so fast that we don't even have time to process what's happened before it's over ( ... )

They're both told the truth so late in the game that we don't even get to see how they react.

Ah, and that's why we write fic.

I do have to wonder what Li spent all summer doing, all alone in Japan.

Yeah, that's weird. Their exchange reminded me of this bit from Seinfeld:

JERRY: So, ah, what did you do last night?
ELAINE: Nothing.
JERRY: I know nothing, but what did you actually do?
ELAINE: Literally nothing. I sat in a chair and I stared.

And oh, ouch, this ending finale. I'd forgotten what it was until now, and I can't say I like it

I like the Sakura/Tomoyo/Kero version better, but yeah, tonally it's weird. There are plenty of other series where the peppy ending song clashes with the mood of the episodes at times, so I'm used to that, but what I'm noticing now is how dated these songs all sound. KyoAni has definitely spoiled me.

*dismay* You're right! How would she have been able to use Windy?

RE: Eriol, he could easily be 2nd or even 3rd generation Japanese. (Likewise with Nakuru. ) I once read that Nissei often returned to Japan as adults. Eriol at least appears to be full Japanese ethnically. The cover story would be that he has wealthy parents & was schooled to speak Japanese like a native. At least, I assume that the character speaks well.

As for saying anything about Eriol & Nakuru being related, there was a weird line about how many people lived with Eriol. He first says two, then ammends it to three. It seems to me that they are pretending that they don't even know each other, until the movie filming. I wonder about the manor house, too. Was it under a notice-me-not until Eriol came from England?

First it was being gone, now it's the olympics putting me behind.

Okay, here it is, the thing that bugs me. WHY IS YUKITO STILL AROUND? I get having the "other" form if it conserves energy or whatever (that we all know Yue doesn't have to spare BY THE WAY), but why the separate consciousness? Why the separate personality? Why the false memories STILL? If Kero needs to talk to Yue, why all the subterfuge to invite Yukito over first? Wouldn't it be easier if you could just call him on the damn phone and talk to him whenever you needed to? "It's rather cumbersome to have your true shape and your disguise as two separate personal lives." No shit, dude. SO WHY?? The disguise is no longer needed. Everyone who needs to know knows.

And we've got Touya trying to tell him, like, why is that Touya's responsibility anyway? And why isn't Touya officially in the loop? HE KNOWS.

So many questions, so many non-answers.

I'm guessing Decently Good Guy Clow didn't like the notion of creating a life only to have it wiped away. Yukito exists because he is his own seperate being. There's no reason to legitimize someones life or continued existance. Yue needed the disguise to be near the Cardcaptor while not being able to interact or be known by them. It's cruel to just assume, welp, this sentient being has worn out their use, just kill'em off.

I don't see him as a separate being or life, but I know I'm all on my own on that one.

I dunno, it's not really a matter of perspective as it is a matter of canon.
I mean, when this false personality was created, it created a new person, esentially.
Yukitos memories may all be false, but the rest of the life he's living has been real, and he's developed into an actual person. So, I mean, he's his own sentient human being, with entirely seperate interests and relationships from Yue.
Destroying him would still be killing him.
