per episode 55:

Clamp loves Alice in Wonderland, we all knew that. And most TV shows do some form of a knock off, whether it's Wonderland or Christmas Carol or whatever, so this was expected. It doesn't fascinate me so much as the Nelvanized version angers me, which I'll discuss later ( ... )

Man, you remember so much more of the Nelvana version than I do. Sometimes you'll jog my memory and I'll think, "Oh, yeah, I remember that", but otherwise I've mostly forgotten it.

Syaoran, you are so cute when you're jealous.

I love that Tomoyo's comfortable enough to tease him about it, too. I wish we had more of their friendship in non-Sakura related circumstances, but I'll take what I can get. They really didn't interact much at first, and now they've got a familiarity between them.

But the question they used instead was the dumbest thing ever: Which one of us is taller? Even though they were clearly twins. So Sakura just randomly pointed at one of them and it was 'wrong', so she lost. Wow, Nelvajerks, you really put a lot of effort into that, didn't you?

I don't know, it's kind of a clever riddle. "Which one is taller?" The correct answer is "Neither, you're the same."

And... Humpty Dumpty is part of Alice in Wonderland how? There are tons of characters in the Wonderland/Looking Glass books that Tomoyo could have been. I ( ... )

Man, you remember so much more of the Nelvana version than I do. - I think it's because the WB ran so many reruns, and because I had no cable and was willing to settle for anything, I'd watch something even if I'd seen it twice over already. I can still remember whole chunks of dialogue when I'm watching the true CCS version, like bad nineties songs that you just can't get out of your head.

I love the Tomoyo/Syaoran friendship too. I've taken pains to elaborate on it in fics because I feel like it was so important to Syaoran's character evolution.

I don't know, it's kind of a clever riddle. "Which one is taller?" The correct answer is "Neither, you're the same." - Yes, that would have been good if that's what they had done. Instead she merely points and guesses, and they shout "Wrong!" and toss her into the river. Pointless.

The thought of Kaho lounging on a mushroom and smoking a hookah cracks me up big time.

You know, I really, really love this show. I love (most of) the characters so much. But watching season three just feels like such a chore.

These two episodes remind me of the filler humor episodes in The Slayers, that served as a break between major plot arcs. Except The Slayers was actually funny.

Episode 56 may be my least favorite of the series, because Spinel is the character I am probably least interested in. And the whole sugar rush destroying of the fair... makes me not like him or Eriol. It's stupid. And it reminds me of those old fics where the writer would say "Woooo I wrote this on a sugar high wheeeee!" It's just... not funny.

And it's filler. Pointless filler. Good filler will at least have good character moments. The one important thing we learn here is that Touya can sense something's up with Eriol. Does that actually ever go anywhere? OF COURSE NOT.

Okay, feeling ready for some kind of distraction, so I’ll get back into this now. It didn’t help that this was the episode that I had to look forward to, except not so much, because like L-chan said, it feels like a chore. And what was up with all those girls who wrote fanfic on a sugar high, anyway? Is that a thing most sugarloaded people like to do, sit down at a computer and start typing? I know I like to go out and at least walk, or something that demands physical activity ( ... )

This is a shameful waste of an opportunity too, because it’s the contrasting personalities between sun guardians that had the most potential to be funny. Why not let Kero meet Spinel and see Spinel for how he really is? Let their characters bounce off one another instead of just racing around like a couple of sugar ODed toddlers. Maybe Spinel could have spotted Kero and tried to shadow his glorified predecessor out of fascination and curiosity, been dumbfounded to learn that Kero was even more shallow and flaky than his own sister, and then get spotted in his distraction and so chaos ensues? It would at least make more sense than Kero meeting Spinel face to face, a creature of clearly magical origin, and think nothing of it other than to offer a cupcake. (Hey, could this magical creature that looks just like me have anything to do with the mysterious presence of Clow popping up now and then, nah ( ... )

I'm sorry this is the one you had waiting for you, and I wouldn't have blamed you if you'd said, Screw it, and jumped ahead to the Elevator instead.

His contrast to Nakaru and Kero is intriguing.

Has anyone ever written anything exploring the way Yue/Spinel and Nakuru/Kero are similar, how the personality types are flipped with the new guardians? I don't read much guardian-focused fic, but that's something that always intrigued me.
