Is rewatching giving you new insights or inspiration for fic writing?

This happened: Yue, the Past, and Clow Reed.

So did I read the dates on the blackboard right? This festival takes place just a couple of days before Touya's birthday? And no mention of it. Sakura goes to tons of trouble for Gramps, a man too chickenshit to tell her who he really is or to thank her in person for her gift, but nothing for her sacrificing brother. She spends all week making a scarf to thank Syaoran--and this I get, because she's coming to realize how important he is to her--but not even the slightest hint that she should do something for Touya, too, except get him to pay for everydamnbody at the festival. "Buy us this, buy us that." Because he hasn't done enough for everyone already.

I covered this scene/episode from his pov in WIDK, because someone had to.

And I've got nothing on the second episode, because Clow bores me.

Ohmigosh, 2/27 - how did I not notice that? Touya's birthday is either tomorrow or day after, depending on the year, and nobody even mentions it. Granted, Sakura may have already had a present for him all ready and wrapped up for weeks now... but then, that's not usually Sakura's style. I sure hope that she remembered and managed to whip up something special once she had the scarf done. It's too bad, really, because the timing of events could have meant that Sakura and Yukito used T's birthday to express their gratitude for what they did and affirm that he's special and important to them. It would have been a great plot point.

And to, you know, talk about everything that's been going on. But I don't remember that really happening in the manga, either. Touya became Xander at the end there--he was done. CLAMP really was not interested in him as a character, I don't think. He was there to give up his magic, and for the yaoi fangirls. That's it. That was his whole purpose.

Sakura’s immediate bounceback only confirms my continuing argument that Sakura should have been rejected before the Final Judgement. Of course, I know this is a series that doesn’t like to dwell on long gloomy heartbreak, and I respect that, but this is more about the plot not being so rushed at this phase of the series than anything else ( ... )

Fujitaka tells Sakura that Touya’s been sleepy lately. Come to think, have we seen Touya speak directly to Sakura ONCE since the big reveal/power transfer?

Nope. I don't think they speak much for the rest of the series, actually, do they? Other than "Buy us more juice". Geez, this makes me madder the more I think about it.

I would've loved to see Fujitaka's reaction to everything, too. Hey dad, any concern there at all for why your go-go-go son is suddenly so exhausted?

I just wish that the writers had carried things out to a more logical place and actually let Yukito and Touya interact with Magical Sakura and Kero and become a part of things, rather than continuing to be segregated off into their own yaoi plot. Would have been nice.

God, imagine if we hadn't wasted an episode on that stupid Spinel candy plot. Imagine what could have been done.

Given the tremendous power that the Return Card wields, it’s really a wonder we don’t see Sakura use it more often. Its uses are unclear. Can she only visit the past and see it through a window, like a tourist, or could she interact with it? Yeah, she talks to Clow in this ep, but he’s different and the rules don’t apply to him. If she went to the past about twelve years ago, could she meet her own mother if she wanted? I’ve only seen the Return ever used once in fic (my own, Lotus Reborn), and I’d like to see it used more often ( ... )

I don't usually use the cards at all in fic, partly because the magic is the least interesting part of the series for me, and partly because I just don't write about Sakura much. The Return does seem doubly tricky because you have to factor in the time-travel aspect of it, and that's always a sticky wicket to get caught up in.

And I still find it superweird that when she first discovered it, it showed her Touya and Kaho's history. Random! Such an awkward way to squeeze in the backstory for something that ultimately didn't matter.

Boy, good thing Touya gave all his magic to Yue, or Yue would be EVEN MORE USELESS in this battle than he already is.

One thing I noticed rewatching is just how little Yue is actually in things. He's often not there when things are going down. Honestly, just what is the point of him?

I am largely indifferent to the second half of this episode. I don’t hate Clow, but I don’t go nuts for him either.

Yeah, I don't hate him, but I just cannot bring myself to care.
