Now, see, I'm going to have to disagree with skurtchasor here.

OMG, I love the bird of paradise! He's like negative space with cute fuzzy legs! Very pokemon. I think it says somethign about your skill as an artist that you CAN distill him down so much while still maintaining the feel of "bird." It's one of htose things that look simple but isn't really.

You rocked the sea otter, but the fox hurts a bit from the difference between cool black & the warm reds.

Don't see any particular need for Ren to have texture, as a color test. Heck, the quilting on his red padding looks pretty dang good just with the linework you did. On a second look at him, though, I still think those tattoos or whatever goig up his arms look out of place and floaty. they kinda hover over his arms... though, tha'ts probably because they're more saturated with color than his skin.
