A/N: Unfortunately for Wing, this is a chapter that is leading up to the interesting things in the story :3 Btw, I'm totally not off hiatus. I wrote this quite a while ago. :3

Rin is alone when she wakes up in Yuki’s room. That in itself is not surprising. Rin knows that Yuki goes to the frozen pool a few miles away every morning. Rin isn’t sure if Yuki finds it relaxing, or if she just goes there to meditate before the day starts. Rin does know that Yuki awakens at the crack of dawn to spend hours at the pool every morning.
--
“Taicho,” Yuki says softly, opening her eyes as the familiar reiatsu appears behind her. “Ohayou…”
“Ohayou,” Hitsugaya replies as he seats himself beside her. This is a morning ritual, and every morning, they find themselves seated together for an hour in complete silence. Their usual hour passes, and Yuki rises, bidding a farewell to her captain before vanishing.
Hitsugaya sighs, standing up about 15 minutes later and returning to his division.
--
“Yuki, the soutaicho has summoned you,” Hitsugaya tells her later in the day. Yuki nods.
“I understand,” Yuki replies, bowing quickly before departing.
--
“Soutaicho, you asked for me?” Yuki says, kneeling before Yamamoto.
“Kuchiki Yuki, I will station you in the real world to assist Kuchiki Rukia.” Yamamoto commands. Yuki bows her head in acknowledgement.
“Understood,” She replies quietly.
“You leave tomorrow, at dawn,” Yamamoto continues, and Yuki inclines her head slightly.
“Shitsurei shimasu, I shall go and prepare,” Yuki bows again before stepping out of the First Division’s office.
--
“Taicho, your sister is here,” Renji announces, looking mildly confused.
“Let her in,” Byakuya says coldly, and Renji opens the door.
“Nii-sama,” Yuki greets. Byakuya nods.
“Yuki, what is it?” Byakuya asks.
“Nii-sama, Yamamoto-soutaicho has stationed me in the real world.” Yuki says softly. Byakuya sighs, perhaps in exasperation, or in worry.
“You, as well?” He frowns, and Yuki nods silently. “Very well, when do you leave?”
“Tomorrow, at dawn.”
--
“What!” Rin shrieks. Yuki takes a step backwards.
“Gomen, Rin. I don’t know how long it will be.” Yuki apologizes.
“You have to come back safely, alright?” Rin commands. Yuki nods slowly.
“I’ll try, Rin-chan.” Yuki whispers. Rin envelops Yuki in a hug.
“Stay safe, Yuki-chan… stay safe.”
Because only I know your relationship…
--
“Taicho?” Yuki whispers, poking her head into the 10th Squad’s office. Hitsugaya is asleep for once, head resting on his arms. Silently, Yuki takes a pen and scribbles something on a sheet of paper, tiptoeing out just as silently.
--
“Jaa ne, minna-san…” Yuki whispers, stepping through the senkaimon, with no one to bid her farewell save her brother.
“Take care of yourself, Yuki,” Byakuya says, displaying an uncommon show of affection. Yuki nods.
“You too, nii-sama. And please, take care of Rin on my behalf.” Byakuya merely nods. “Well then, I’ll be leaving.” And with that, Yuki steps through the gate to the real world.
--
“Huh…?” Hitsugaya mumbles sleepily. As his eyes open slowly, they catch sight of the white note sitting just in front of him.
I’m sorry, taicho. Soutaicho stationed me
in the real world. You were asleep, and I
didn’t want to wake you. I’ll be fine,
taicho. Please help take care of Rin.
- Kuchiki Yuki
“Yuki!” Hitsugaya bellows, starting to shunpo off, but suddenly realizing that he has no idea where Yuki is. “Why didn’t you just wake me up, baka…”
--
“…I don’t like it.” Yuki decides, only moments after entering the real world. She sighs heavily. No Rin, no taicho, no nii-sama…
“Kuchiki Yuki-san?” An unfamiliar voice interrupts her thoughts. Her head snaps up at the sound of her name.
“Hai…” She replies, looking warily up at the intruder. “Who are you?”
“Forgive me, I’m Urahara Kisuke.” The sandy haired man says. At least, Yuki thinks his hair is sand colored, from what little she can see of it. Yuki nods, slowly.
“Kuchiki Yuki, but you already know that,” Yuki says warily.
“I will give you your gigai,” Urahara offers. Yuki stands up.
“Are you here on Soul Society’s orders?” Yuki asks, reluctantly following Urahara. Urahara laughs, hiding himself behind a fan he had pulled out of nowhere, his eyes hidden by a striped green hat.
“Kuchiki-san, I follow no one’s orders,” Urahara finally says. Yuki stops suddenly in her tracks, refusing to look at Urahara or follow him. Urahara sighs. “Stubborn girl,” He mutters before raising his voice again. “Yes, Soul Society asked me to prepare a gigai for you.” He admits reluctantly. Yuki glances suspiciously around her, feeling for any dangerous reiatsu.
“I don’t trust you,” Yuki says coldly.
“The Kuchiki nature shines through,” Urahara sighs, smiling slightly as Yuki glares at him.
--
“I’ll train until Yuki gets back,” Rin says to herself. “I will have surpassed her by far when she returns.” She readies herself, imagining multiple Hollow around her. Spinning, ducking, and parrying, Rin flows through her own elegant dance, lost in the rhythm of the steps.
“Yo, Hakuso. How long are you planning to do that?” A scornful voice interrupts her reverie. Rin snaps out of her daze, staring in shock at the newcomer.
“Fukutaicho, what…” Rin says indignantly.
“Just shut up and come with me,” Renji interrupts, sounding irritated as usual. Rin pulls free of Renji’s grasp.
“Why should I?” She demands. Renji shakes his head in exasperation.
“Taicho has something to tell you.” Renji says finally.
